Side-scrollers. Gotta love them.

I grew up playing a lot of these games for hours. It's the one genre that seems to never get old, has countless different art styles, and tons of replay value.
They age well, keep pixel graphics relevant, and are some of the most challenging games available. How can you not love them?

I will forever love side-scrollers.

I would hope not. Seeing how well Rayman: Origins did, I agree.

Oh gosh, did anyone else have The Lion King for the SNES? I don't know if it was because we were so young. I just know I remember it being one of the most difficult games I've ever played.

(Heck, the portion of the game showed in the video was of you dying!)

They're not that hard to make either (from both a technical and design standpoint), so I don't think we'll see them dying out any time soon.

The way I see it, big companies are slowly moving away from sidescrollers. Yeah we get them still, but not as many. But as long as we have indie devs, they'll keep being made.
