    Maybe check out immediate music, they do alot of instrumental stuff, some of it may suit your needs, and the majority of their tracks on CD are duplicated, one with and one without a choir.

    For movie scores, Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna (and a lot of his soundtracks) is really the most obvious choice. Then, try the Gladiator soundtrack (definitely EPIC sounding), composed by Hans Zimmer, along with Inception probably. Then there's Danny Elfman's tracks, Basil Poledouris', Alan Silvestri, John Williams and the like.

    Of course, I could even it out if you really give some specifics on what you mean by "epic". Do you mean lots of powerful notes and percussion? Or just... something that sets a scene climactically?

    But if you want real classical music, there's Mozart, who's is incredibly intense, no matter what people say about it being stimulating to little children (Requiem, Lacrimosa). Then there's obviously Beethoven, who is also amazing. Prokofiev, Verdi, Modest Mussorgsky, and the like also.
