'Ghost of Tsushima' anime series and movie adaptations for 'Horizon Zero Dawn' and 'Helldivers 2' announced

This year's Consumer Electronics Show is ongoing and during the event, Sony announced the adaptations of some of its popular video game franchises. The company is collaborating with Crunchyroll on a Ghost of Tsushima anime series. This adaptation will be based on the multiplayer mode, Legends, and it will be produced in collaboration with Aniple(Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online) and directed by Takanobu Mizuno. The series will premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.

In addition, Sony announced that Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 will be adapted into movies. The former will be produced in partnership with PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures, while the latter will be produced by Sony Pictures. No further details were provided for these adaptations; but we will likely learn more in the coming months.

another movie adaptation of games with no plot.
It's interesting because a movie that focuses on a non-central character or element may as well be its own property, but a movie that follows the storyline of the game too closely will feel repetitive to the target audience. I guess the one good point is that a movie will increase brand recognition.

I recall the latter when trying to watch the Persona 4 anime. It occurred to me that I had already spent hours on the actual game, so I didn't find the animated version compelling.

From what I hear, the original P4 anime did have its value, turning Yu Narukami into a memelord and having decent animation quality - the P4 Golden anime, on the other hand, has much worse animation and is much more forgettable.

Interesting. I guess the writers knew they had to give the main character some kind of personality to help drive the plot. I think it's funny that, in the games, the other characters tend to be extra quirky to offset the (mostly) silent protagonist.

I would have said that the idea of redoing a completed animation is costly and (partially) redundant, but Full Metal Alchemist got the benefit of HD animation and a more manga-accurate storyline through Brotherhood. (Full disclaimer: I never finished Brotherhood. I have fond memories of watching the original series and movie with my college friends.)

I wonder how alloy will look like on those movies lol. Also, Tsushima anime in collaboration with Crunchyroll, not real anime then, who remembers the garbage they produced and called "anime".

Considering that Sony owns both Crunchyroll and Sony Interactive Entertainment, it sounds less like a collaboration and more like telling your two kids to go play together, lol.

They really want to keep forcing Horizon don't they? Nobody likes that series, Sony.
I'm intrigued by how divisive the Horizon series seems to be. On the one hand, it seems to have many fans. It's spawned a sequel and a remaster. On the outside, it looks like "just another open world game." Reports seem to indicate that Lego Horizon Adventures did not sell well. I'm inclined to chalk that up to Sony trying to market a mature game series to a demographic that is already bombarded with tons of other more established properties.

The horizon games "sell" massive numbers because they're bundles with PlayStations. You get a copy whether you like it or not.

Lego Horizon isn't bundled with PlayStations so it's numbers can't be giga hyper astroturfed like the others. Nobody likes this crap. And obviously when I say "nobody" I mean, few. Certainly not most of the people who actually own a copy ironically.
