ROM Hack Getting Started

It's time to get this brain back into shape and get back on track here. I took a class awhile back in C++ and want to get started again. Are there any interactive programs out there that can teach/refresh my memory or any good tutorials I can read. Also whats the best compiler to get and what else do I need to get started.

same here! i tried reading a HUGE C++ book to get to know everything, but it was far too confusing. any suggestions?
