Most of you have presumably heard about the EU General Data Protection Regulation, a EU bill passed to ensure our data is kept safe and also grant us more control over what companies can and can't do without our consent.

It has recently been discovered that going to https://accounts.nintendo.com/setting and disabling sharing usage information with Nintendo will completely stop your Switch from communicating with lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net if you have a EU account, and EU Switch. (Not been verified if changing the region on international Switches will make this work)

This means that usage data and error reports will no longer be shared with Nintendo from your Switch, meaning it can help mitigate bans. (this does not stop everything from being shared though)

Blocking "receive-lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net" in your router settings should do the same for non EU users.

As always we need more statistics on this, so hopefully users here can test if this indeed is the case for your Switches via wireshark or other network monitoring software.

Fair warning -- I believe some data still gets sent even with this enabled on an EU device. Not sure what/under what condutions, though. Be careful.

This does seem to eliminate the vast majority of telemetry.

Hopefully this GDPR doesn't go too far, but this is intriguing.

It prevents a lot of data that has been theorized to be used to ban people from being sent, but as @SciresM said, there is still data being reported, and we have yet to document this fully.

I'm guessing blocking lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net in my router will block the switch from sending any info you that server too

Yup, means nothing for me as a US user. Not gonna change regions either. They probably have my shit anyways.

I created a EU account on my US switch and linked it, then disabled sharing user info on the page. Hope it also works this way. Thanks a lot nobody.

That prevents sending data to the EU account bur Nintendo still could send anything they want to any other (US) account.

Make sense. I'll try to be offline until atmosphere is out with telemetry fixes.

For those without an account in the European region, you can try going into your router settings and blocking this domain "receive-lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net" and it should pretty much do the same thing by preventing the Switch from sending data to Nintendo's server.

Bummer that this only works for EU Accounts and Switches.

Do hope that another method to disable much of the telemetry is available for people not able to access this option.
