Gaming is Back!

Saturday 6/12/10 is the 4th WIFI Nite.​

WIFI Nite is back! This Saturday we will focus on Mario Kart DS (Track Hacks Allowed), Call of Duty: World at War, and Tetris Party Deluxe. For NES we will focus on Contra, RBI Baseball 3, and RC Pro AM II.

Remember that the channel is open for social interaction 24/7. Any on-topic gaming is allowed, just show up and ask for a gaming partner. If you would like to have your gaming choice selected for WIFI Nite all you need to do is spend some time being involved. Guides for Kaillera supported emulators are still wanted, grab the Nestopia guide and check it out as an example. More official guides mean more gaming choices at each WIFI Nite!

What is allowed:
• The channel supports NDS/Wii/Retro gaming, ONLY!
• Retro gaming including EMU's that support Kaillera or GGPO and games more than 12yrs old.

What is off-topic/not allowed:
• No other modern "PREVIOUS-GEN" or "NEXT-GEN" gaming will be supported, IE: X-BOX, PS2, X-BOX 360, etc.
• No other handheld WIFI gaming will be supported, IE: PSP, etc.
• Absolutely no public chat ROM trading of any kind.

Spoiler: How to connect to the channel

Download mIRC
• Google for a tutorial on setting up mIRC
• Type: /server irc2.GBAtemp.net:5190
• Type: /join #GBAtemp-wifi

Navigate to the GBAtemp JAVA IRC client
• Click the "Start Applet" button
• Accept all security warnings, click "NO" if prompted to block anything
• Type: /part #GBAtemp.net
• Type: /join #GBAtemp-wifi

Navigate to www.mibbit.com
• Click the "Launch Mibbit" button
• Click the "server" link and enter irc2.GBAtemp.net:5190 in the box that appears
• Enter a nickname to use on the network (this will be your handle, name, identity, etc)
• Enter #GBAtemp-wifi in the channel text box
• Hit the "GO" button.

if anyone wants to write a kaillera guide please PM me. guides will need to include screen captures, all required information to get the emu running for co-op play, and written in HTML for easy cross-platform compatibility.

i hope to see some of you at wifi nite!

as for the 26th i will not be physically able to attend but wifi nite will continue as planned. this saturday let me know what games you would like featured and i'll have that post up in 2 weeks.

COD mobilized also has WFC, please substitute that if you would prefer to play that game on saturday.

I'll be there, can't believe it came around so soon. I said I'd get those guides done but real life took over. I will do them, I promise, time is hard to manage with a newborn baby in the house...

I'm putting mum on feeding duty 'til the guides are done, sorry for taking ages about it...

If we go all N64, I'm sure more folk will be interested. I hope it's gonna be a decent turnout tonight, I'm staying awake for this again. Your (American) 7pm is my midnight!! Just to play NES/DS games with people I don't know! That's dedication!

the point of the date rule is to keep gaming retro. n64 kaillera play is fine. use the date as a relative point to consider if something should be played or not.

here is something i don't understand.....

seriously people? really? thats just sad. why is it so hard for people to get involved and have some fun?

I think people are scared of getting owned! I just had a close game of RC Pro AM 2, which crashed in the end... Gauntlet 2 was fun, until it crashed... Then a 2 player Contra game didn't even make it to level 2 but at least it never crashed!

For me this gaming nite was somewhat disappointing
since there werent as much players and due to
technical problems (or people not putting in my FC right)
I was only able to race with one other player in
mario kart.

Still I was a big help in getting friend codes across since
my strategy this time was to copy+paste each player's
code into notepad so I did not have to scroll up or
ask for one again.

Harvesting the codes also gave me the ability to simply
send the FCs of everyone wanting to join to the game
without others having to retype. By doing this my
reputation for helpfulness went up though ifish
complained about not being able to read the code(s)
I sent him though it was most likely a word wrap problem
on his end since there were no complaints from others.

Hopefully j-live get an IRC addon going though its
easier said than done.
