GBAtemp Weekly Group Highlight: The Pokémon Fans Club!

Are you enjoying the new GBAtemp Groups feature? Last week, we got to check out the Steam Deck Group to kick off our new feature, where GBAtemp Staff pick a group from our lovely community to showcase every week. This time, we're looking at The Pokémon Fans Club, created by @LeyendaV! As you can probably guess from the name, it's the go-to hub to discuss anything Pokémon-related! Here's how they describe the group:

Pokémon Fans Club is the first and biggest group for Pokémon fans here in GBAtemp. Whether you're a new or longtime fan, this is the place for you. Engage into fun discussions about every aspect of the franchise, set up trades and online games, keep track of the important events with our calendar and share your passion and love for the Pokémon world with your fellow trainers!

The Pokémon Fans Club really makes use of the Groups feature, with a cute custom banner, a well-formatted and unique info tab, and fastidious organization of topics, grouped by each generation of the Pokémon franchise, as well as spinoff games. If you love talking about Pokemon, this looks like the place to be! Great work, and congrats on the 200xp and trophy!

In addition, if you open the portal customization page, you'll notice that there is a new content block available showing the Newest Groups. This will help our community discover and join the latest groups that our users create. We highly encourage you to add this block to your portal, as it is now enabled by default to all new users, positioned right below the "Recent Content" block.

I just added this to Chary's post, but adding it here in case someone reads too fast:

How is it different than creating a topic and people follow/comment
creating a group means you have your own forum on GBAtemp, and that comes with mod permissions and all that.
It’s like you have your own place on the site. It works the same ways as groups on social networks (eg. Facebook groups, if you use that)

This feature is intended to create a more friendly space for discussion, in opposition to mega-threads with thousands of pages that nobody reads and where it’s hard to find useful info. Take for example the CEMU mega thread with a thousand pages of replies. If we’d had a CEMU group from the start, each new release could have been posted as a separate thread in its own neat group category.

It is very suitable for projects or fan lore.

So other than the OP having rights to mod the group it is pretty much the same as doing a thread.

But then does this open up having a section where if the OP doesn't like your opinion, they can ignorantly delete it?

One thing i would like to see is adverts for mobile devices removed from the comments box.

While typing this, a spam advert that has nothing to do with gaming and is some bs google ads spam, keeps loading up covering the comments box and what i am typing, keep closing it and it pops up again.

And then you end up accidentally clicking the spam advert, like now its always some bs weight loss pill advert, or some fake celebrity claimed to have said xxx live and now too late to cover up some bs secret.

I understand the site is funded by ads, but at least tailor it and have them display where it doesnt interfere with the use of the site.

Same as the vidoe that keeps loading at the top of the site, overlapping your notification/profline section and if you want to click anything you have to wait for the video to run long enough for the X to appear.

Or take the Atmosphere Cheats thread, as another example...

Yes, the cheat codes is something that we hope Groups will be used for.
The cheat code threads are one of the sources of inspirations for having this addon in the first place.
We can't force people to use groups, but we can reward people for doing so, which we will :D

Oh nice, went ahead and joined the fan club !
Hope we can organize some Pokémon online stuff once the new switch game releases.
Question...looking at the group forum
I see that you can discuss the different generations.
But is it possible to make a sub-thread inside of the thread ?
Like a general talk thread for Gen-8 and a trading/battling thread for Gen-8 ?

As far as I know, no forum has the option to create a thread within a tread... A threadception?

Jokes apart, the genral Gen 8 thread is already pinned. If you want, you can just create another thread inside the group, dedicated to organize online gaming on Sw/Sh (I assume you were talking about those games in this paticular case.)
The group is open to any pokéfan, as long as you follow the GBAtemp rules you can have fun in there!

Quick question: can a user be banned/suspended from a specific Group?
Like, just one Group, not the entire site section or the site as a whole?
