GBAtemp TempCast: Episode 3 - We Put Mario Odyssey in the Trash (where it belongs)

tempcavst_t.png

Welcome back to the third episode of the GBAtemp Podcast! As usual, we discuss gaming, technology, and hacking news going on in the scene, with our host, @Chary, and co-commentators @Meteor7 and @FrozenIndignation. We've got a wild bevy of topics to cover this time, ranging from PS3 emulation, to talking about our opinions on the Smash Bros. Direct, and the confusing web of timelines that encompass the Zelda series.

If you'd like to see a summary of the topics we're covering in writing, you can check out our news subforum, and the latest issue of This Week in Gaming!

As always, we thank you so much for your support. We appreciate every comment, as we're eager to see where we can improve, as we acclimate to this new format.

We were talking about the Hat in Time Gamescom announcement, where all all agreed that A Hat in Time is a perfect Mario game, perhaps even moreso than Odyssey...hence the title! :P
Well I dunno, Odyssey to me looks much more fun than AHiT.

I found them both fun, I’d personally say check them both out if you can.
I'm yet to get a Switch, but if I do, I'll definitely get Odyssey. I did play AHiT and it was fun, but late-game it started dropping frames to the point it was unplayable. I guess my laptop just wasn't meant for this game.

I never experienced frame drops that bad, although my system is a 3770k with a 1080ti.

Hey, when you guys say Google Cast support pending, does they mean it'll eventually be on Google Play Music for listening? If so, I'd definitely subscribe.

I thought hat in time was a Paper mario/Mario & Luigi's game subtitle.
I looked at some videos of hat in time, all I saw wasn't mario-like at all. probably wrong videos...
edit: ok, proper video looks more like 3D adventure games. still not mario like (no moon or star, right? it's more adventure and story driven)

I enjoyed oddyssey for its semi openworld, waiting for a full one now.
I didn't complete it 100% (yet), I started to get bored playing it non stop like all other mario games so far when trying to get everything.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
