Were we to number these GBAtemp book game clubs.... actually we do so this is edition #73. Following tradition the quick what, why, when and how for this feature follows. GBAtemp likes games and as such we have a few featured geared at showcasing various games with this being one of them, others do have guest reviewers and such but this feature is very much about those wishing to participate rather than us reviewing a game.
Although we are not explicitly limited to them the bulk of games selected for the feature will be from the huge libraries of commercial releases, ROM hacks, homebrew code and leaked/unreleased code for the GBA, DS and Wii and maybe something the DS can emulate.
By and large we do not elaborate upon the selection process, as mentioned though we like games and top ? games lists risk leaving out some of the most interesting ideas and as such we do wish to note we are not slowing making one of those. We are deviating from it today (and possibly in a manner than will see an eyebrow or two raised at the decision) but because we are a weekly feature there will usually be a single game selected unless there are a series of related games or we are doing a compare and contrast type exercise. We do occasionally have special themes and reasons for a selection or we might pose a challenge/run but those will be noted as and when.

    #73 - Dementium series (NDS)

A graphics intense very much horror themed first person kind of shooting game... for the DS. It is probably hard to imagine the pitch meeting for the title but Renegade Kid managed to make it happen and ended up releasing Dementium: The Ward for the DS, then a little under three years later (or one year if you played the European version of the original) they released the sequel "Dementium II" also for the DS. The opening line took much of the description and spoiling the story for this would probably lose us some friends so we will say nothing on the matter, suffice it to say it pushed the DS graphics hardware to the limit and wrapped around it it in two of the few M rated games for the DS (and although gore helped in getting the M rating it was not the only thing to do it). The sequel is a direct sequel but it was much improved in terms of controls over the original, it should function as a standalone title though and as such you could play them out of order.
The second game had a PC port announced recently although no firm date as of writing. We should also note the European release of the first title changed the saving system a bit which might be said to make the game easier.

Trailers, gameplay and more is available

Are renegade kid one to watch or was this is a shot in the dark that somehow hit? If you prefer your games a bit more action filled you might also like one of the developer's other titles in Moon or if you prefer your horror with a bit less action we refer you back to previous GBAtemp book game club entry Therisia.

gbagotw should get you other links in this series

Ah man I remember writing this up in the NDS Games of the Week thread and then getting disappointed when it got pushed to another month at the last minute. This and Mushroom MEn (Wii version) were actually the only releases by Gamecock (who were touting themselves as being the greatest new publisher) that were actually any good. Gamecock are now dead as they released some terrible games like Legendary and Hail to the Chimp.

Fantastic game, people need to play it as more of a survival horror game like Silent Hill than a FPS and like with most good horror games you need to play this with headphones to get the full impact. I had no issues with the save system at all...but then I'm not a pussy. :P Only issue was the usual hand cramp that you'd get from playing DS games that requried you to use d-pad and stylus for a long time.

This first one is being "upgraded" and ported to PC soon but by a different developer. Never really got into the second game, however for those who like to buy games, Southpeak did release both the games in one pack for a budget release.

Didn't get into the second one much.

    ERROR!
Have you tried the thumb stylus before? Put the sensitivity to high and play it like any other dual analog game.
This little peripheral saved me from getting tired hands in Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Anyone here interested in playing Dementium should consider picking one up! :D

I had a thumbstrap which came with my Phat but the games don't play as well for me.

I have that one too but it's terrible imo the strap gets in the way, it becomes loose while you're playing and more importantly it doesn't really have a tip. The thumb stylus is elevated and stays on your thumb, the elevation really helps to give your thumb better reach and it makes you hold your thumb angled in relation to the touchscreen which is a much more natural position.

Get one from ebay or something they cost less than a dollar anyway, I'd say it's worth trying at least.

The game "Moon" was absolutely horrible. I justify this comment because at the end of the article, there is a mention of Renegade Kids' other DS FPS "Moon." I'm extremely sorry if this is deemed off topic, please report this post for immediate moderation.

I made my own a while ago using a small rubber band, a bottle cap, and a broken stylus o.O

Anyways, it does really help in these kind of games, mostly FPS (CoD) games.
Someone should tell this to @smealum for DSCraft! :D

Given it was mentioned in the opening post which was one that was on the portal it can hardly be considered off topic. As for the matter at hand I should probably have mentioned it is pretty divisive although unlike most divisive games I can entirely see where you are coming from.

On the thumb stylus discussion- I got one way back with a flash cart I was reviewing and it ended up working pretty well for this sort of thing. I still rock an original DS though and tend not to get hand cramps for game related things.

It was a really boring game, it played well like Dementium but without anything remotely interesting happening. I never got why it was received so well. It originally started off as a GBC title:
    http://www.unseen64....olor-cancelled/

It would be nice if they bought that version back for eShop. Would kinda be like the opposite of Mutant Mudds where that game was originally a 3D title that then became a retro title.
