Many years ago I tried to take to heart the suggestion of "if you post something then use a descriptive title", I think I managed it there.

Anyway a simple one today, how do you pronounce "scone"? Afraid I was not invested in the idea enough to finally get the International Phonetic Alphabet/IPA sorted in my head.
So how do you pronounce the name of the item pictured below?

    Sk-on

    Sc own

No poll as I do not like polls and never vote in the things.

    Favourite types also accepted.

Mine would be anything with lots of cinnamon, after that cheese and maybe cheese and chillies.

Not sure what you mean with Sk-on and Sc own.

Sc as in Science? Pronounced like an S? or SK like in School?

    I pronounce it Sk-own.

I've always pronounced it as sk-on. It was just the way I was taught. Frankly though, I'd take a stab and say that the 'correct' pronounciation would be sc own simply due to the 'e' at the end.

I use the /skəʊn/ (scown) pronounciation myself, but both are accepted according to Oxford Dictionaries.

Yeah a good one....myself. i pronounce it as scone, but i've heard it pronounced skon/scon on numerous occasions.

Either way it's pronounced everyone knows what you are referring to.

I've been to Cheddar Gorge many times and i always indulge in a Scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam...delightful!

Sk-own. Like cone, but, you know, with an s at the front.

If you pronounce it any other way you are clearly an uncultured philistine and I will not have you in my kitchen.

I used to pronounce it as sk-own but I've been told that it should be sk-on. That said, I've seen people pronounce it both ways so meh.

Well, Australia is a former prison colony. You shouldn't be surprised that some crooks clearly have been trying to con you.
