okay if I had the old gba sp and got a friend's new gba sp with the brightness boost and dumped the bios and then wrote it to the old gba would it get the brightness boost, or is that in the hardware?

Its hardware. You cant make a light brighter if it isnt made to be brighter. Besides, the new SP has a backlight, while the old ones have a frontlight.

Not to mention that the BIOS is read-only. You cannot modify the BIOS of a GBA, or a DS for that matter. FlashMe only alters the DS's firmware, not the BIOS (and the DS actually has two BIOSs, one for the ARM7 and one for the ARM9).

You have insufficient posts to view location.
You can make it brighter by a voltage hardware bypass, it stay brighter for about 4.5 sec before it burns out.

The thing is you can technically do it, you just won't like the outcome.
