Hardware GBA save file

Yesterday I have replaced battery inside of my Pokemon Ruby and after replacing it I've noticed that I didn't lost my save file, which is kinda confusing for me. Wasn't i supposed to lose it?

BTW. i know i did job right since i'm not getting anymore message that battery has drained out.

You are not supposed to lose the save.

The battery is there for RTC, it doesn't power the cartridge in order to keep the save file.
You are thinking about GB/GBC games.

Oh i thought that GBA also lose save. That's nice.
