    Thank you, I almost updated my 8.1 2DS to 9.3 but I wanted to wait until GW makes an announcement. I'll wait for the lower version support then.

    Anyone got a glossary for the words used around here like "sysnand" etc.

    Thanks for the update!

    sysNAND: The actual nand of 3DS itself. Once you update this, you can only downgrade it if you backed up a lower firmware version of your 3ds and also have a hardware mod installed.
    emeNAND: The 'emulated' nand on the SD. You can update it any time (if there is support for that firmware version) and you can also downgrade it anytime.

    You use emuNAND to keep acces to new games, firmware features, and E-Shop support.
    You use sysNAND to keep the exploit used by gateway unpatched.

    I got the much, but is there a master glossary with terms not mentioned aboce. Also from the emuNAND I can access and buy from the E-Shop and play real carts online?

    There's not a master glossary, no. But there should be. People just tend to find out the meaning of these terms through continued participation here. But be warned, participation here leaves you vulnerable to trolls and assholes. Post at your own risk!

    not actually that good, but combined with this
    http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_hacking_faq
    and you have everything you need to know...that one also has its own glossary which is better than the general one....probably should of just linked that :P

    So this is clearly means ssspwn has kernel access
    Because it's the only thing that blocked in 9.3

    Or may they used ssspwn as entrance to the kernel
    Either way , it's seems that ssspwn helped GW alot

    gateway was blocked too :P, its more likely they are just using a very similar exploit (or at least using the same functions as what ssspwn used to run its unsigned code)

    Not sure.
    Ninjhax => user exploit.
    To this, Gateway adds a ROP and go to kernel access.
    Ninjhax does not need any kernel access.

    So Nintendo might have blocked the user exploit, like they blocked the MSET exploit before.
    No MSET = no Gateway, even if kernel access is still available.

    If I don't say bullshit :P

    Basically

    Ssspwn = DS profile

    Both are user land exploits used to access kernel

    Forgive me for asking this but I can't quite get this part.

    Does this mean that firmwares below 9.0 (i.e 7.1) can be updated to 9.0-9.2 with the Gateway cart itself?

    No.
    Most surely : GW will be ok for... 5/6/7 or 8 and you will have to update sysNAND to this with a gamecart.

    I guess they will add support for the latest FW that you can update to using a retail card, so 8.1 probably.

    The speculation about ssspwn is involved with gateway is very interesting. Anyway IIRC smea stated that one of the three exploit ninjaxx uses where patched by ninty. Maybe he can find another way to add support for 9.3 and then gateway too. But obviously these are all speculations :)
