Good ball! I hope they release some kind of teaser or video soon. I'm anxious to see where this will go. Maybe the reason they're holding out on the video is because we'll see just how they operate the exploit, so they must kinda' want to keep that under wraps.

If it's something new, they won't want to expose it publicly just like that.

There's still time until they release the 9.2 version, so you will probably get it before they release the update.

I've got a quick question, Is there any difference between 9.2.0-20 and 9.2.0-20U? I've searched everywhere and can't find anything. they probably are the same but I just want to make sure.

  4. the U is saying the store location U US, E = Europe etc

    In English:

To you Swedes out there: There are shitloads of pre- 4.5 FW 3DS units out in the wild, on the Swedish market, most likely in stores near you. Just follow the data listed in the holy spreadsheet: http://tinyurl.com/3DS-FW-EU . Generally speaking, if you find anything below the SXX1153XXXXX series, you can be sure you've got a unit with a 4.5 FW or below.

This past week I picked up a 3DS XL "Silver+Black" with a SEH1074xxxxx serial number, from Elgiganten in Bromma (that's in Stockholm county). It has FW 4.2.0-9E - the "E" suffix is for Europe, "U" for US and "J" for Japan - so that was easy enough. Cost me 1795 SEK. You can presumably buy one in any Elgiganten store or any other similar chain stores. Just go have a look on the boxes or ask the staff to look at them for you, if they're not out on the shelves.

Elgiganten has an open ended, full refund return policy if you'd want to return the 3DS within 30 days - for any conceivable reason - even after you've unboxed it and run it. As long as everything is in pristine condition, you're free to return it for a full refund. This means that you can buy your 3DS from them - based on an educated guess - and then return it if you got it wrong. I verified this with the staff. You're not able to do this with games, but you can do it with a console, so make sure you don't buy a bundle with an included game. Here's the URL to the lightweight version of their policy: http://www.elgiganten.se/cms/oppet-kop-elgiganten/oppet-kop-hos-elgiganten-i-30-dagar/

If you want a GW from a reliable reseller, go with shop01media.com . They're the only official reseller listed under Sweden, on GW's site.

    ______

4.5 3ds systems will only be out there for so long though. Eventually there has to be a way for things to work on newer firmware.

Hey guys, do you think we'll be able to play and [E] games on a Japanese New 3DS with the upcoming update of Gateway? (By the way, does SKY3DS does that?)

Nope. No-one knows if the upcoming Gateway update can circumvent the region locking. Until the GW team makes an official announcement, everything said around here are just qualified and unqualified guesses, based on doom and gloom or wishful thinking.

The Sky3DS does nothing to resolve region locking.

Please read up a bit on the product specs and in comparisons on the web, on your own. Chances are that it'll benefit you, as you're bound to mostly see confused people giving you confused answers in this thread.

Wow can't believe i read al the pages. ordered another gateway 3ds and a sky3ds today.
i know when i bought my first gateway people were like dont do it. it will brick your device.
but that never happend. and it's still happy on firmware 4.5 althoug nintendo to alot of sneaky attempts to get you to update if you dont enter bogus wifinames/password in sysnand.
i know sky3ds is probably a stupid gamble but my friend never plays online so i thougt maybe he could play with that one cause its kinda risk free when you have wifi off and you can play all games released till now.10 games limitation isnt that bad
i can understand nobody likes to push that button 100 times like i have on my gateway i have 128GB micro sd even i dont play 10 games at the same time.
but i trust gateway to make things work for those who accidently upgraded their device from the 4.5 sweet spot.

I didn't have to do this. I just entered my AP info into the emunand and deleted it from my real nand. Am I missing something?

every time add or edit wifi on emunand it gets copied back to sysnand thats why you have to fill it with bogus so it wont sneak you into updating

    yeah.
If your emunand and sysnand are 'linked'(share the same settings, because you haven't formatted the sysnand after creating the emunand) all emunand's wifi connection settings are copied over to sysnand unless there's something else there already.

I'm almost sure they get copied regardless of if they are linked or not.

Since I see people saying they're buying a Gateway 3DS now after this news, is it even possible to update a current Gateway to the new firmware that supports 9.x if you currently only have a stock 4ds already on 9.x?

Based on the emails people have been posting, Gateway will not upgrade their hardware and the current cards will function on 9.x firmware.

However since nobody knows how they're solving it, when they are solving it and how they'll overcome the whole updating without the blue card deal - its a potentially risky endeavour to buy the card now. As opposed to waiting untill Gateway offers up more information.
Then again, if it is true that nothing additional is needed, buying now means beating a potential price increase once shops get confirmed that Gateway will work on 9.x so thats the trade-off.

Either you buy it now, risking having a useless card because you ca't upgrade it without the right hardware.
Or you wait, risking a price-increase.

I'm sure people have already been emailing Gateway trying to get confirmation about the whole "how do you plan on updating" deal.
