Hacking Gateway support for Firmware 9.0 – 9.2 Coming

I think that means "we don't know when this will be ready, so don't update until it's out so you don't lose gateway support" not "there are going to be less features on 9.x"

Who would be so dumb to update the 3DS and lose Gateway functionality before the update is released?
Update after reading an announcement? That's a bit far-fetched isn't it

It seems obvious that we all believe (or want to believe) that Gateway has a solution ready.
And you may even say that they should have something ready because claiming that they have when they do not would only ruin their own credibility.

Yet when it comes to it. All we have is their word. We simply don't have any concrete proof either way untill that is revealed.
(Which I for one hope is somewhere in the coming 24 hours, but I suspect that everyone is timing their releases around the 21st)


TL;DR - We don't know IF they have a solution.
We don't know what that solution would be.
We don't know how that solution would be implemented.

We do know they claim its for 9.0~9.2 (which specifically excludes 5.x~8.x)
We know they claim it doesn't need any additional hardware.
We know they recommended 4.x users to stay on 4.x (which can either imply it may take a while before they're ready to release, or that the new solution has less features, or simply "If its not broken, don't fix it.")

Yes. They never said that it will have the same features BUT they never said that it won't have same features. This is called speculation. Them telling people to stay on 4.5 could be because there are less features on 9.x, it could also be that it's easier to enter GW mode on 4.x, it could be because it might take them a while to release 9.x support. This is also called speculation.

I.e, all they you have been spewing out is all just baseless speculation.

Here's what we know. GW says to stay on 9.0-9.20 and that it's a software update and not a hardware update (These are facts)

This means that either the FGPA needs an update OR it's just a simple launcher.dat update.

1) FGPA update can occur either via some inbuilt routine that is triggered by an image on the GW's microsd card but this is extremely unlikely and even close to impossible that it has been built in since the previous FGPA update was triggered by the launcher.dat. This logically means that it will have to be a FGPA update (if it really is as such) that is triggered by a new launcher.dat

2) Next up, to run a launcher.dat you will need kernel access especially since you require access to the cart slot. So this means that you need a kernel exploit to even update the FGPA on GW.

3) If a FGPA update is not required, this will mean it's a simple updated launcher.dat to be placed on the SD card. Once again, you will need a kernel exploit since GW's FGPA is unchanged and its functionality remaining the same.


To sum up, no matter how GW decides to "update their GW cart for 9.x" all methods require kernel access.

Conclusion. GW has found a new kernel exploit for 9.0-9.2

It doesn't matter what GW chooses to do. They can do whatever the hell they want. They have their reasons for doing things or not doing things. Also, they did say they are "finalizing our support", so it could be that they haven't sorted out emunand. So what? God is supposed to be benevolent, he/she can end world hunger and poverty and yet he/she does not do so. This must mean god does not exist. Good like trying to peddle this to the various faiths and religions. Basically, we've reached into the zone of pointless speculation yet again and all of the above is just useless speculation.

Having emunand support means it will be future proof. Nintendo will block this when it comes out. You can count on it. N3ds just started its life cycle.

People seem pretty sure It's a kernel exploit, why I have absolutely no idea. Sky 3DS doesn't use a kernel exploit. I think It's just wishful thinking. What we do know is they have a solution to play 3DS roms on the latest firmware as a bare minimum, which even a couple of weeks ago is a huge improvment. I personally believe they've had a solution for a while ( they said they have tricks up their sleeves when the N3DS was announced ) but Sky 3DS has unfortunately forced their hands.

Hopefully It's a kernel exploit, probably not. In closing - I couldn't care less. Off to play my 4.5 3DS - BEAST MODE.

Probably because like they said, It's coming soon. Believe them, don't believe them. I seriously doubt they're bothered. Pointless questions being raised all the time. They have a solution, It's not ready yet. It's no different from when a new firmware comes out and they announce theyve already analysed the latest firmware and can say for sure they will fix compatibility. They dont release a video with it. Infact they don't even release the fix then. They just ANNOUNCE that it will be fixed.

I'm fairly sure that its a kernel exploit because of what I've stated previously. (read up a few posts). The ONLY WAY that it's not a kernel mode is if GW's recent statements in their announcements are false (or if they can update the FPGA directly using the GW's sd card).

OMG. You just can't stop speculating can you? There are infinite reasons as to why they didn't make a video. Just because they didn't make a video does not MEAN anything useful.

You make a valid point but ultimately irrelevant. A deviation from a trend does not necessitate a meaningful explanation. Them not making a video can mean anything ranging from "lack of new features" to "broken camcorder". You might argue that it's unlikely they have no cameras to record a video but I can counter by saying it's embarrassing that a company does not have a single camera. So, there. Meaningless speculation with little to no use
