Hacking Gateway support for Firmware 9.0 – 9.2 Coming

Let me put it this way, if you have a 4.5 3DS and a Gateway, you're not currently questioning why were being told not to update. Why? BECAUSE IT WORKS. It's as simple as that, and the speculation is stupid. You'll know soon enough what the 9.0-9.2 support can do but for now all this is currently available on a 4.1-4.5 3DS Gateway:

Multim-Rom support
In-Menu OSD title selection
exfat & fat32 support
NAND based rom support
game cart backups
on-board diagnostics
Emunand
clean boot region free system
backup systen nand
theme support (and custom theme support I believe)
homebrew
.cia roms (being able to install to homescreen)
also supports DLC

There's probably more im forgetting. Obviously gateway knows this, so why would they tell anyone on 4.1-4.5 to update to 9.0-9.2 when they havn't even set a specific timeframe for that release, and then they get flooded by people asking when they are releasing because theyre gateway card is currently not working. Use your heads.

no the dstwo has been working ever since 8.1x firmware. EDIT: You mean the dstwo +. That is just a rumor.

By that reasoning, there should only be one brand of everything in the world. And everyone else should 1:1 copy them. Why release a different product if you can just copy the market lead.

They need an exploit for that and just because an exploit exists (or could exist) doesn't mean that they have discovered it.

You're assuming requirements though - I'm simply saying "right now" this applies.
Any future changes are irrelevant as its speculation.

Maybe they will tell 4.x users to update, maybe they won't. Nobody knows.
But if a 4.x user updates now, they can no longer use their card.

That's what competing companies do. They copy each other and release their own products.

This is very common in the mobile device (smartphone, tablet, etc...) industry, for example.

How strange that the market is filled with all kinds of different products though.
You'd imagine that all products would be identical copies by the way its being decribed here.

Like, literally 1:1 copy - there's no reason why you would mix things up if you can just steal what someone else has.

Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, 7-up, Dr Pepper - they're all an illusion, there is only generic soda and its all the same!
Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Volkswagen - again, all illusions, there's only generic automobile.
Playstation, Xbox, Wii - don't exist. Its just generic console.

There's no variation in the market right? Just 1:1 duplicates.


The reality is that it doesn't work like that.
And yes, sometimes there will be knockoff products that do 1:1 steals with a coat of paint.
Other times two companies happen to develop the same (or a similar) product alongside eachother.
Does that mean that they're always preying on the market lead? Or does it mean that certain products are similar because they both developed based on similar ideas?

If I pick up my 3DS and hold it next to my Vita - I notice significant differences between the two.
Yet by the above logic the one should be an exact duplicate of the other - because one released first so the other HAS TO have copied it.
Similarly the XBone, PS4 and Wii U controllers have noticable differences. Sure there are also similarities - but are these similarities there because its a proven method - or because they stole it from eachother?

Competition sets itself apart by how they *DIFFER*, not by how they are the same.
You corner the market by offering something unique or superior. Not by offering the same.

It's.. Complicated. Really, some people just pull the most amazing things sometimes. What seems so logical to you (or us) is dead-on rocket science to the next guy (or girl).

I'd imagine that the average 3DS user (you know the ones, daddy bought it for the kids or 3DS shared by the entire family bought by non-informed user that just heard of it on TV) does exactly that...

"Oh, it prompts me for an update, better do that!"
Some others may never even touch the online functionality and the device will never be updated at all.
The device doomed to play the same 3 games untill it falls apart or gets left to gather dust.


My experience is that the majority of users out there are not particularly tech-savvy. To the point where its a miracle that some of them can turn the devices on at all.
