Well that exploit was patched as far as I know. A new exploit is definitely being published with the next update.

I want to agree with you (and did, actually), but I noticed a flaw in the theory:

If this new GW update only runs on 4.1-4.5 or 9.0-9.2 (note that there is no explicit support for anything inbetween), and Sky3DS runs on anything current (up to FW 9.2).. Then it's reasonable to consider the exploit they're using on 9.0-9.2 is different.

I guess we'll find out when the update gets released. :/ lol

Did not think about firmware version at the time befour updateing it of me .

kinda, they already showed that they where copying GW fw in their previous video they showed "GW3D" in the system settings.......but luckily for them the brick wave hit just before they released their card, which gave them the opportunity to fall back to a older FW before release...which is why MT didnt have 5.x+ sdk games working for a while

that said they do appear to try add a few bits to the firmware themselves, but its probably like 90% gateway code

It was never established that MT was a direct clone (earlier on anyway). Doesn't matter anyway now, MT is slowly becoming irrelevant. First the 7.x encryption and now with this seemingly likely 9.x exploit.

It's a different hardware and the initial features were original work, but for the newer features they're just copying Gateway's code.

I apologize if this has been asked before but... are there any games that contain the 9.0-9.2 update? I ask this becuase I live in Japan and really want to upgrade from my US 4.5 3DS XL to the New 3DS XL.... but the only thing holding me back is the lack of Gateway support.

I'm holding out to see if this update actually offers the same usability that 4.5< Gateway offers, and I assume Nintendo will be rushing out an update to patch the exploit soon enough, meaning that the said firmwares will not be available OTA.

Really temped to buy a Gateway now. But will wait for the reviews. Great to hear from them and hope they get it working like Sky3Ds without the 10 game limit.

I really really wish that the Gateway team and Smea would just wait to release this stuff after the N3DS is released globally. EU and JP folks are fine clearly but I'm pretty sure Nintendo will release the US N3DS with SSSPwn and Gateway's 9.2 exploit patched

Honestly if Gateway's doing this now to catch up with Sky 3DS's sales then realistically it'd be a better economic decision to wait and advertise N3DS support, rather than release it now and have Nintendo patch it before the N3DS is out

I think you're safe until 2016 or so,Because most games that will be released this year have been completed long before the release, and are just in" post production" kind of thing, meaning promotions and stuff.

This is just my view.

They have asked 4.5 users not to upgrade because the exploit isn't out yet. It may take 2 weeks or perhaps 3 months for them to launch it (till the New 3DS launches worldwide). Therefore, they asked the 4.5 users to NOT upgrade because they may not be able to play games for a substantial amount of time.

Also, IMO 9.3 version will also be supported by Gateway. I say this because they have not released their exploit and there's no way for Nintendo to fix an exploit they don't know of. It's not possible for them to fix something because if they knew about it in the first place, there would have never been some exploit.

Also, I don't think Gateway is copying Sky 3DS as they were hinting at working something from long before Sky 3DS launched. Whatever Gateway does, it WILL be patched by nintendo as they can.

Why would they tell people with 5.x and above to update to 9.x, then? If they used the same method as Sky3DS, it should work on all firmwares.

one reason would be to get on latest working FW when they can, sky3ds does not have spoofing or emunand so if you want to use games that require later fw then you would still be better off updating to most recent FW it works on
that said i think they have found a new explloit, they have been hinting by saying things like "tricks up our sleeve" and " we have reached a major milestone"

I'm hoping the Gateway update comes sooner rather than later. I'm sure there are a lot of anxious people and with the release of sky and SSSpwn in the coming week there's a lot of buzz surrounding the homebrew community, now would be a great time to release it before Nintendo puts out another update, making 9.X firmware hard to update to in the future unless there is a game that has the update.
