Hacking gateway sd help

Hey all,
Just got a regular a 3ds with mario 3d land pre-installed got me a 4.3 version by the way (from amazon)
My question is this. I got my gateway and wanted to know can if I can use the default sd card that comes with the 3ds for the launcher.dat file?
And if so do I need to format the sd card before? (I dont want to format it so cuz the mario 3d land is pre-installed on the default sd card + my saves )

So can I use the default sd card (4 gb) with mario pre-installed and just copy the launcer.dat and I wont lose any data? or do I need a fresh sd card.....

Yeah, it's fine. As as you don't install emunand.
But if you ever want to change to a larger sd card, know that you can just copy everything over.
