Reading through that just seems like it's intent on breaking the Gateway, which is what I explicitly stated in my OP I don't want to do. There is a definite convenience factor being able to have ROMs I can load on that without having to install them as .cia's and basically filling up the main SD card.

The whole thing seems incredibly overwhelming reading through it. My gut makes it feel like dealing with those fake links for PS3 CFW's and crap. Like it's just asking to brick this system. To which without, then I will have lost everything, because even in this day and age, Nintendo ties everything legit purchased to the system and not the account.

I still don't understand, why would I intentionally update my sysNAND with the express purpose of breaking the system that's already been working, for a chance to get the minor bit that isn't? why can't I just run the freaking games that are already installed on my actual account-verified emuNAND?
...Just keep using Gateway...

I just finished saying, the only reason I've even considered CFW is as a supplement to the existing setup I already have via the Gateway and emuNAND. On the emuNAND I already have it fully updated, able to run games with cheats, and all my legit account stuff on there. Last I checked, if on the odd chance something broke irreversibly, and I had to use a different 3DS, even if I log in with my NNID I still will have lost what I legit purchased, and all my Ambassador stuff, because Nintendo still ties those things to the system, which at that point would be tied to the (bricked) handheld that I can't recover from. And it's my understanding that it's not exactly possible to say, flash an emuNAND over the sysNAND at all, much less have it actually work afterward.

My goal was to at least have a way to then play the GBA and DSiWare that I already have, and don't have the heart to delete. After all, they are mine. Either as Ambassador reward, or through the now defunct Club Nintendo program. And other members here made it sound like I could just have the respective exploit installers on my DStwo, and then I could simply just pop that in when I need to, install the respective 'sploit, and boot to the desired mode as need be. that method was both simple enough and worked 100% of the time for me. I certainly wasn't trying to run a CFW all the time, unless there was one that could recognize the Gateway's red card and load stored ROMs on it. Again, since last I checked, a 3DS can only address a 32gig SD at max, while at least the Gateway card could have up to 128GB.

A part of me wished the 3DS part of the DStwo Plus would have worked, because I could have easily saw myself fill a 128GB microSD if I could have DS and 3DS games at the same time from the same card.

I am your cat.
My cat is a *hax developer CONFIRMED!

Actually, you can flash emuNAND to sysNAND. In fact, it was part of the A9LH installation process (before it was streamlined even further). And I apologize for not making this clearer, but you can use an emuNAND with A9LH, I just don't see why you would want to.

Your able able to use cakes from the DS exploit but I'm not sure if it patches GBA/DSi firmware on that low a firmware. Look for an old version of rxtools like say 2.6, that can be installed with a DS rom as well from your DS flash card.

But the above will be an issue since you still need to install those games to your sysNAND regardless to play them.

No CFW can read the roms from gateway red card, but the 3DS can use larger card then 32GB if formatted to FAT32 I use a 64GB in my systems

Okay, so to address another overhanging question.

Assuming I do all this and update to 9.2 in order for that whole hot mess of instructions on that big wiki... well, clearly I then can't do the DS exploit install anymore. If I recall correctly, there's a way to downgrade the portion necessary to retain use of that exploit still. But failing that, what would be available to me afterward? Would I still retain the option to use the Gateway when deemed necessary?

If you install A9LH and keep a 9.2 sysNAND, you can still use Gateway. But, the whole process takes hours to complete, so start when you have lots of time. Also, Gateway officially announced their A9LH support recently, so you can use it with an updated sysNAND and get in super fats! Until then, you'll hold L on boot, and use the browser exploit (unless you have a N3DS in which you can downgrade MSET and continue using the settings exploit on 9.2).

If you use a 9.2 EmuNAND booted with firmware90.bin using Luma3DS you can launch Gateway onto SysNAND in the Gateway menu.
Once Gateway adds support for A9LH (Arm9loaderhax) then you can switch, and remove the EmuNAND.

You could keep your EmuNAND if you want to but really there's no reason to do so.

JUST KEEP USING THE GATEWAY AS-IS, YOU'RE BEYOND THE SCOPE OF A9LH.
Anyone can learn, but the real question is do they want to do so?

@codezer0 others have tried to give you answers but here's easy steps to get both gateway and cfw running without messing too much of your nands
1. find tutorials on how to use browserhax
2. with browserhax, install menuhax
3. setup .3dsx files for gateway and any cfws you want in the sd card
4. enjoy both gateway and cfw

i've tried this myself and currently using gateway, rxtools and cakesfw

True, but assuming from what he's said prior to this post, I really, highly doubt he wants to.

I still don't know what browserhax and menuhax are, but that sounds fair enough. And seeing what you guys are talking about here, this A9 thing seems to be something that will be good for... well, everything. Since both GW and all these CFW's want to use it so much.

MenuHax and BrowserHax are entry points into the homebrew launcher.
