The thing that sucks the most is we can't use the damn thing. If I could even load one rom per SD card like it used to be, that would hold me for the update. But the Gateway card is useless at this point.

Exactly thats the point. Also any beta version would do for me, with
limited functionality.
Buts for now its just some useless investment.

also the update would be mirrored immediately on countless sites.

There is a hell of a lot more value in having the download on an official source. I personally don't download shit unless I'm somewhat confident in it's authenticity. I'd MUCH prefer to download it from gateway in a couple days than have the gateway site down now and have 40 random links flying around, half of which likely have virus/keyloggers/rootkits bundled in.

Gateway cards are produced in China, where it is not illegal, and shipped and sold all over the world in shady flashcard websites. Gateway is hidden somewhere to protect their anonymity. Not seeing where the legal issues would come up.

People waited because
1) Even without multirom they could still their Gateway. 9.2 users currently can't.
2) There was no competition. People now can run over to Sky3DS, and even if they're on 9.4.
3) There were no competition to lose customers to back then. But customers who turn their back on Gateway now, will have no reason to come back if they can enjoy the games they want to play.

And gateway clearly doesn't care about having sky3ds as competition as they're two very different products.

Gateway has a lot of high quality features such as region free, a good fast rom selector and game dumping that you can't get on sky3ds but you can't use the latest firmware. They can also upgrade firmware so that you don't have to buy a new cartridge.
Sky3ds only does the absolute basics of rom loading without region free, but can be used on the latest firmware. They can't upgrade firmware and need a new card purchase for new features.

They are just very different products, gateway doesn't care about that sort of competition.

Actually I believe that they do care, otherwise there is just no sense in pushing out a 9.2 release just after sky3ds came out.
But they surely dont consider the threat to be too harmful, so that they decided to take their time to let ppl wait for the best quality in coding.

Yeah I had actually thought that. What if this new exploit requires connection to servers in order to install or something? They could be having issues setting up the server and of course that may bring along legal issues.

They've already said there'll be no beta this time. I guess after last time where no-one would keep their private beta private, now they're only trusting themselves to test.
