The Sky3DS is a ticking time bomb. It will become useless the moment Nintendo releases an update that blocks it. Unlike Gateway, there is no way to update the cartridge once an update blocks it and it can't run homebrew (well it can via Cubic Ninja exploit, but not if your on firmware 9.3 or above!) or make use of Emunand or firmware spoofing. Hell it can't even undo region lock.

Useless unless you, well... don't upgrade? Sure, you lose access to eShop and future games that are built on a higher firmware, but you still have access to the entire library of 3DS retail games. GW offers way more functionality, has a better promise of a future, and is cheaper but useless is quite the overstatement.

I'd expect some Sky3DS users to agree with me, but most of them are probably off playing their games in bliss and not mashing F5 on this thread. :P

I was specifically referring to the song. I've got nothing against the exchange and even globalization of ideas and certain products. Like games, electronics, foods, traditions, and anything that doesn't kill people.

Song is here -

I don't recommend listening to it, though. It may melt your brain.

Apple is evil. Thats the best example of a company out to take your money. Repeatedly. Until you realize they're evil and start getting alternative products...

well... not sure if I should laugh or cry about this song ... orboth XD I Knoe USA have an strong patriotist things but I don't understand how it can be in a country that where formed by immigrants and stuff... else the man that died for them was the natives, not who opressed them XD oh with hope obama don't blow my house for that ...

well I don't plan to get stuff for them, even if I could afford XD so much price for something you can buy betters for much less o-o

Sure Sky3DS looks like a good deal right now, but a year or two from now, the library of games will expand to include a significant amount of games that will never boot on current revisions of the Sky3DS. Many buy the Sky3DS to fulfill an immediate desire, but will really regret it a year from now when all the new games they want to play won't run on the Sky3DS. In terms of an investment, the Sky3DS is it's current form is a really bad idea. I can't fathom why people continue to try and defend this product. It's border line fanboyism at this point.

Sky3DS's function has been pretty well documented at this point. All it does is emulate a real cartridge. It does not get around the security in place. The fact they released a new hardware revision to properly remove the 10 game limit proves, that the cartridge is not up-datable via software. No custom code can be executed from a device that operates like this. I'm sure Sky3DS or some other clone team will make a new cart that gets around the block by emulating real carts in away that is undetectable by the new firmware release. Are you really ready to spend another hundred bucks every time Nintendo blocks it?

Perhaps a clone will come across that will make a proper cart that is actually worth something. one that is updatable to make it a bit more future proof then the current Sky3DS and whatever clones of it that are out right now.

As of right now, I wouldn't trust Sky3DS at all. If you haven't yet ***ked up and bought one, I highly recommend you stay the hell away from buying one.

Just wait for Gateway to release their new exploit. If you already have a 9.3/9.4 console, you can either just buy a new 3DS that has a compatible firmware, or wait till a better Sky3DS clone comes out that is future proof via software update. If you don't make rash decisions, you'll save yourself a LOT of trouble in the future. Trust me on this.

They removed the 10 games limit cause this limit was already removed by a Chinese guy in Chinese forum, the SKY3ds just posted his old version file on their website.

This so much. Let us not forget that GW has taken a while to add support for anything over 4.x and they themselves have said that support for over 9.2 is very far away. This is also assuming that the Sky3DS actually does not blocked with an update in the near future. I own a GW and I think it is the better buy for the long haul but calling the Sky3DS useless or a waste of money, like I have seen some doing, does not make any sense to me.

The Sky3DS is $85 right now. Even if it is blocked, users will likely have at least six months before a game requiring higher than 9.4 comes out. I've said it before, $14 a month for unlimited 3DS games is a very good investment.

Why is region free such a big deal for so many people? Isn't it sort of pointless unless you understand Japanese?
Genuinely curious, because I feel I may be missing something.

Some people such as myself have Japanese consoles, and if we were to use the Sky3DS we wouldn't be able to play US/EU games. Not to mention those with multiple consoles with different regions have to buy a SKY3DS for each region.

[snip] [Truth about the future of Sky3DS]

I have to say, I'm actually sort of glad that flash cartridges are sort of expensive again, and in some ways I hope they become difficult to find for people that aren't l33t and even more expensive. I really miss those days when they were, there were a lot less under-informed folks about engaging in the dipshittery that the $5 DS flash cart market brought to this (and many other) forums (or BBS's and Fidonet back in the day).

ground: The only trick Sky3DS will ever have up their sleeve is to repair the flaw in their 1:1 cloning and then sell you another cart. While I understand your sentiments, you will wish you had just listened to people like Apache Thunder when you no longer have 100 dollar bills to spare.

Coming soon: Sky3DS clone w/ JTAG port and USB JTAG programmer for the low low price of $300!! You've already spent $200 on disposable carts, but this one is future proof!!! as long as we keep supporting it anyway

Because it isn't limited to Japanese releases. Europe, Australia, and even just other countries in general get some releases before other countries. Some countries don't get the releases at all. Or, let's say you want to use your Japanese N(ew)3DSXL to play US releases. There are plenty of uses for region free.

well, like the users in the US I'm going to sleep soon, so maybe it'll be released when I wake up. Unlikely though, I'm expecting 4th of Jan at the earliest here. February 25th at the latest.

Region free can play various version games. And now the new 3DS isn't released in US, I got the JP version. So at least it's important for me to play US version games or Chinese version games on my JP version New 3DS.

I have my hopes set on the 2nd. If it doesn't come out then, I'm just gonna give up and wait for March :/
