I'm a professional engineer and I say that a couple of months from product demo to product launch is completely normal.

More than normal, and they probably announced the release early enough for costumers to prevent them from updating before product could be finished, and look what happened nintendo released 9.3 and 9.4 shortly after they made an announcment not only did they secure more costumers but were able to prevent a lot of users who wanted gw from updating further i dont blame them in how they announced it, but they way they went about it is bad business, they did say they would release the update first, then do later fw, that was posted on their main page non the less, and instead decieded to do allll fw at once bad business but does not make them less reliable.

Well if 2Hack is right in 48 hours tops all conspiracy theories will be dead huh. So will be this thread.
Kinda a sad idea, it's a bittersweet thing.
If 2Hack is right? Welp, it was nice chatting with you all, but I've got games to play.

..

Not you tho', Mr. Star. You and your team have a project to fulfill that highly interests me. B-)

the method by which they handled their 'announcement', was not normal.....or professional.
I can somewhat agree to this. Depends on what you mean by professional though. It's certainly professional for them. :P

Guess I'll be a professional translator and say Gateway's engrish is full of garbage that overshadows their true intentions with a release date B-)

Their release is and always has been "when it's done". They're not a game producer or phone manufacturer. Most products don't get concrete release dates. They just release them when they're ready.
And even then you often have a couple of weeks leeway in release just to clear up inevitable last minute bugs.

I fully agree with this.
But, the method by which they handled their 'announcement', was not normal.....or professional.

There's only as much professionality you can expect from a Flashcard manufacturer.
Surely they handle things poorly but if it will work on the technical side that'll be worth it right?

deffinatly not professional, but they have to do what they must to obtain more customers before its too late because of updates, their a business and thats just how it is. sky3ds on the other hand will in fact make you keep paying for new cards for each update, as their cards do not seem to have a flash firmware updater of any sort that im aware of so im not going to touch the sky3ds

Like I'd give another 70 euros (if not more?) to buy a totally trusted Sky3DS while I wait for the Gateway update. If I had that much money to burn, I'd just buy the games themselves.
I would just wait you can't remove games from sky3ds you know.

The best way to make money without having found a new exploit, would have been to just to make a clone of Sky3ds with some improvements.

Gee Phantom WHY do you think I care about the 9.2 update in the first place? :D
Not to play games obviously. I can let the cat out of the sack now: I wanted to show Decode translated running on 9.2 for New Year and the GW team kinda put a damper to this. That's where my frustration is coming from.
I got a japanese 3DS and all the games I need. It's the unsigned code (= romhack) ability I care for ;)

maybe they are bluffing about not being able to support 9.3 plus
maybe they have it working or are close to having it working and are waiting for n3ds launch

I know I know .. I was just trying to jump onto the professional bandwagon too.

Their english does need a bit of work though.

Props to GW actually warning us in time. How many people would have their N3DS ' s guaranteed with a correct firmware, ready for them. I don't think sky pushed sales of the N3DS nearly as much as gateway did.
If I wasn't warned early, I might be on 9.3/4 right now, stuck with a sky cart. It takes news like this time to spread, and I'm just happy I got in in time :D

I don't know. The announcement and youtube demo was a fairly typical announcement.

I just don't think they had expected to be badgered for a release date by dozens of kids every day, that's probably where they started feeling the pressure to name a release date when they had just planned "when it's finished"

Gosh. I'd hate to be the one who pissed on your milk this morning.

Edit: I 'dun wanna be that 'kinda guy where you say stuff like: "God damn it a guy comes here to say some good stuff, gets stoned to death, say some bad stuff, equally stoned to death".

That's not the case but seriously. Massive case of I-Told-You-Soitus in there.

See Phantom, the whole point of 'I told you so' is not to make the other party feel inferior in judgement, but to keep the party from making a mistake.
About 400+ pages ago when I said in a very subtle manner that this was a market blocking technique by Gateway, nobody heard it. I did indeed say that this would play out exactly like this.
And, it has. Unfortunate, but true.

*Oh I dunno.. Maybe you'd like some Digi-poop with your Gateway, that's all. B-)

So not only is Gateway delaying their own release, their delaying Decode as well. Damn it Gateway, you're doing more harm than good right now! :glare:

yeah but this is the main issue in my opionion

"If you are wondering what native support we will bring for lower than sysnand 9.0, we can tell that after 9.0-9.2 we will start with 8.0-8.1 and gradually work our way down with support for even lower sysnand firmware versions."

but then they did this

"We know many Gateway users are eagerly anticipating our upcoming native firmware support for Systems over 4.5 up to 9.2.
We have currently implemented support for firmware versions 7.0 until 9.2 and adding support for lower versions every day.
We apologize for the delay but want to reassure our users that it will be released soon."

which means they arent releasing it and started working on the fw first which is not what they had stated
