Ninty didn't really announce a season or specific month. They just said 2015. The most obvious assumption is Spring. Spring is compromised of March, April and May, so there's that.

At best, a March release.

Though if Nintendo's smart they won't take too long. Times have changed, and people know, unlike 20 years ago which basicly meant whatever you had in your country right now, was "new".
where did they say 2015 for the US?

I've read "we do not plan to launch New Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL for the U.S. or Europe this year." (source)
alot of websites cite that source page as confirming a 2015 release for Europe & America but it clearly doesn't, the whole thing is just saying why the US market doesn't need it.

Nintendo, along with any console maker, would never wait more than a couple of months before bringing a console over in these days. 10 years ago, sure, but not now.

Whenever a company discusses 'a year', it means a financial year. According to that, there's no way the N3DS (or XL) before April 2015.

For those who imported a jp N3DS and aren't native speakers. Is the menu system easy to navigate or at least the same as the US 3DS menus. I gave up long ago learning Japanese even though it would be useful since some of my family still lives in Japan.

All I do is play games so as long as I can play US/EU games I could care less about the rest of the system. Once they release this I may think about importing a N3DS and then once everything is up and running sell my 4.5 3DS.

it is the same, if you have used the english 3ds, however if i were to recommend at this point you might as well order the pal new 3ds on play-asia. not only is it english its more or less the same price. oh and it also comes with firmware 9.0 so you dont need to worry about updating it and speed of the shipment.

AUS = more and the games cost more if you end up having to buy games for it in the future.

I can actually get a N3DS from nippon-yasan for around $166 shipped. That seems like the cheapest option.

The AUS N3DS from playasia will cost about $239 shipped. That is substantial and I think the cost difference might be enough to just deal with the language issue.

Yeah screw all of that, i ordered the 2DS + Gateway. That's all i will ever need AND it's the cheapest option :)

Well I am just worried about future titles being N3DS exclusive. I'd rather get in now and sell my old 3DS to make sure I get a N3DS that works with GW.

That Xenoblade game has been all but confirmed N3DS only due to its requirements.

It's been confirmed. It's why I am a bit worried that Nintendo might try and push other N3DS exclusive games or I guess technically features if only the N3DS can facilitate them. I don't think it'll be rampant at all since the install base is so much larger for the 3DS, but even a few games you couldn't play would be annoying. Now if Nintendo goes and releases a 4DS a year or two from now, ughhhhhh.

I've never seen a 2DS in person, are they the regular 3DS screen size?

Yup although i don't really mind about the screen size.

Yeah that sounds good also, but im not really worried with the new exclusive games, they're all probs re-makes from the wii anyway which i already have.

Nippon yassan waits several days between when you order and when they ship, and the explicitly do not allow any returns. I would not risk ordering from them with the possibility of an update so close.

I wouldn't order until I know for sure it will work. i.e. after 9.3 or when it's confirmed there will be no 9.3 and after GW releases their latest exploit.

I don't think it would be too hard to sell a jp N3DS either though.

but Gateway may never be able to run those exclusive games if it gets blocked by Nintendo too soon as no doubt Nintendo will be making sure all future N3DS titles will require higher firmware than 9.2
