As for why it's only being released now, I can speculate that they found the exploit on 9.0 - 9.2 (hence the posts on their website prompting people to download that specific version) and are working backwards through firmware versions with the exploit. I would imagine that competition actually has little to do with this.

I respectfully disagree.

Why spend so many resources implementing a new injection technique when you have one customers are happy with?

You think that parent will wait around Gateway to release their promises when they could pickup a Sky3DS for their kid instead? Or you think a teen/young adult who has €€ will wait around for a release when he or she just wants to play X number of games?

Competition is everything. If there's nothing to compete for .. Well .. Don't want to see that happen.

They have a very good reputation and a loyal fan base. They where never known to screw people over with their product. So them saying 9.4 is exploitable should bring no doubt to whom ever is concerned. I mean there's always a chance that they would do such a thing but the thing is that they're not noobs like Sky3ds who started producing like a month ago. Everything that they promised they delivered, it's just a matter if you are willing to wait or not.

I'm guessing the wait is this long because they plan on bringing support to every firmware til 9.2.
This would bring them an enormous amount of income, it's no wonder they don't give a F about the holidays.

When Sky3ds was announced I honestly had no interest. The way it worked, the half-assed template system. Blah. Even with the limit "officially" removed, I still don't want it. In comparison it looks like Gateway has an easier learning curve. So, it just depends.

I was content with not having anything. Then Gateway prematurely (you know it's true) announced 9.x support. Then out of nowhere started working on lower firmware support. So, I've been sitting with a gateway and 64GB MicroSD for about a month now. Still, I'm fine.

:edit: I guess most of it is because I have a new 3ds coming as a Christmas gift.

Which leads to pretty much why Gateway announced the 9.0-9.2 update in the first place. So that people wouldn't buy as much Sky3DS flashcarts. I can pretty much guess that if it wasn't because of said flashcart, it wouldn't have been announced yet. There was another update that they were working on before they made the switch. (And that was the save editing and cheats capabilities update)

However, it might end up backfiring because not everyone has the patience to wait.
And considering Sky3DS released a version with no game limit, (which is legit), I'd say Sky3DS has somewhat of an advantage now. Not in features, but in keeping it short and simple.

They're delayed because they are adding support for older firmwares and stuff, right? What I don't truly understand is why they don't push an update now, and then if they get more versions working by next week they can just push another... It would benefit them because the update would be out in time for the holidays and people won't go to Sky3DS, and they can continue supporting more firmwares. Doesn't really make sense to me why they'd want to delay the update and pretty much loose money and customers when they can just add the new stuff later on (which isn't even necessary since they told us to update to 9.2, and 7.x is pretty outdated at this point...)

Perhaps it more to do with stability on these lower firmware versions? Taking the extra time to avoid potentially bricking consoles would make a lot of sense.

Nothing much. I was just explaining to the guy I quoted that if GW really was trying to scam us and run away with the money they would have to announce that 9.3 is not exploitable for the sake of "credibility".
They could have just easily said that the lates 9.4 firmware is exploitable and no one would doubt it since they are not known to lie about officially announced features.

If you start doing a job you better finish it right? Well in this case youre right, I mean they could have just released the 9.2 exploit but I guess theyre not in a hurry. If they end up supporting all the firmwares til 9.2 They will end up owning 100% of the regular 3DS market place.
