Dude Italian's awesome. If I wasnt allowed to take german Id definitely go that route.
yeah it's beautiful, but i think the grammar is a little hard to learn.

I want to learn Japanese too, but I have to wait until my Cantonese is at a decent level (currently learning it to be able to speak to my wife's family). It's too much to try to take in 2 languages at the same time. Ce la vie...
well if you know Chinese isn't more simple learn Japanese?

I'm part Italian and can't speak it at all. I know what certain words are but won't understand majority of them.

Japanese is a language I've always wanted to learn but I doubt I'd be able to.
ciao come stai? have you never tried to study it?

you say that because of the way it's write? because i think the same, look of all those lines, and know that lot of word are formed with other word kanji.. @[email protected] seem difficult

another noob question. do reseller update the Gateway firmware for you? for example gateway 2.7 just release, if i buy gateway now will it come with 2.7 fw or just default 1.0 firmware?

I got mine from new3dscard.co.uk it came in a week in the retail gateway packaging with red and blue card.
is it free shipping?

it is actually a double edged sword, because on one hand it is much easier to learn kanji and understand general grammar/proverb etc but on the other hand it is very confusing because japanese kanji can mean totally different thing in different context like combination of words

The card's always the same, isn't the physical card that is updated, it's the software that you put in your sd

I don't think so. You just download the required files from the gateway website and put it on an SD card, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Honestly, it's more of a "knowing both will mess up your reading of either" situation.

From what I recall you need the language pack installed and configured for the keyboard layout. Once installed you would type words and the symbols would appear automatically, auto-correct basically.

Well, it's more of a windows keyboard issue.
hardly a windows specific issue  i dont think i have ever seen any OS that only uses proprietary keyboards.....i don't think i have seen any keyboard with a full set of characters to cater for every language in the world either for that matter

hmmmm maybe this would do the job XD

Languages like Chinese and Japanese don't need language specific keyboards, you simply type out the phonetics of the word, they have systems in place for this. For example if you type 'ma' on a Chinese input system a pop-up will appear and you can select 马,吗,妈,码, (horse, question particle, mom, number) etc because they all have the pronunciation of 'ma'. Japanese can get more annoying in my opinion since it uses three alphabet systems, but the input systems are getting better and better in recognizing which 'ma' is appropriate in the sentence you are typing.

Are you my mother?
Nǐ shì wǒ mā ma?
你是我妈吗?

Well i just ordered my gateway from modchipsdirect. Hopefully it ships :)
I ordered two from them yesterday morning. They shipped using DHL last night. Because I'm in Canada (NS) they are shipping from Australia. They assured me that it would be here on Monday. DHL says Monday - Tuesday pending customs, I'm impressed.
