Yep. The hardware is completely different between both card types. Also, that'd make the GW red card void.
You are absolutely missing something. The blue card is solely NDS hardware. It cannot be converted to a 3DS card by a simple firmware update.
Alright then. Case closed.
Also, even if it did work that wouldn't make the red card void. It would just give you multiple options. One of them not needing any kind of exploit, but Sky3DS would still be superior because at least it supports 10 games at once

People stop with this "it uses Ninjhax" nonsense. First off they confirmed no additional hardware needed to update the card. So it doesn't require you to buy Cubic Ninja. (and don't count the japanese eshop game as it has been pulled and only works on Japanese consoles due to region lock. There is no version of it on eShop for other regions)
Then for those who might try and mention it could be some update using the blue card, then it will run Cubic Ninja mode to download a patch via Cubic Ninja exploit to update to the real exploit, then I got bad news on that front for you too. The blue card doesn't work on 9.x firmware at all. At no stage will Cubic Ninja EVER be involved with this new exploit. I can guaran-Fu**ing-tee it! Get your heads out of your a**!
(Also note it could be possible they can update the blue card, but to do that, they'd need additional hardware to make it happen if you Ninjhax trolls were right. Nope, that can't happen either)

1. People are discussing whether or not the Gateway red card could be used like a Sky3DS, to mimic Cubic Ninja.
2. Blue card seems irrelevant, but they could always increase compatibility to 9.x if they so choose.
Edit: Blue card CAN be updated without additional hardware. You just replace the firmware on the microSD card with a computer.
That's how all DS Flashcard firmware updates are handled.

You keep forgetting they would need to exploit the system to "update" the red card so it can mimic an existing game. So how do you think we are going to update the card? They said it wouldn't require new hardware to update for people already on 9.0-9.2. They would already need an exploit just to update the card. Thus the new exploit they have likely involves something with the system apps.
I still believe Cubic Ninja won't be involved at all in this new update. The only reason it was spotted in videos was simply because they were using it for testing/development. I don't doubt the chance they used Ninjhax to look for other exploits, but Ninjhax itself never became the final entry point they would use. They likely found a new one. Perhaps involving the web browser or the Mii related system apps.

Edit: Of course, I was always against thinking that Ninjhax was involved. But I'm just saying that your prior justifications as to 'why' weren't entirely accurate.

Meh, well that killed off any hype I had left. Yeesh. That single There is going to be no release this weekend. 'kinda killed it off.
At least it's not impacting update development, which 'kinda begs the question .. Is the e-mail they use run by them or the website staff? A user here posted his e-mail and Gateway sounded pretty pissed lol.
Oh well, all the more reason for them to steamroll and launch THE DAMN THING already. Christ all mighty everyday I see a peon or two (out of the dozens of hidden ones) that fork over their way towards Sky3DS. Considering the time it takes for Christmas postal service to act up, Gateway's pretty much lost any chance of getting a bit fat sock in Christmas by now. Starting tomorrow (or Sunday) it'll be a full blown month since support was announced and 68 days since FW 9.x first started.
That right there would be pirating. GW wants us to use our "backups".You don't need additional hardware if you can somehow flash Cubic Ninja to the blue card
