Guys, for all people, who are arguing about the SD Cards speeds. Today I tested the new SD Card speed bought from Amazon.
Everything was tested with this CardReader and I used Crystal Disk Mark 3.0.3 x64. Certainly on a USB3 Port from my PC. And these are the speeds. IF this is true (hopefully not a software failure or sth), .CIA will NEVER be slow on this card while playing in GW Mode

Here are the results:

Seq: Read 434,4MB/s Write: 427,5MB/s
512k: Read 291,9MB/s Write: 271,7MB/s
4k: Read: 25,61MB/s Write: 71.01 MB/s
4kQD32: Read 192,1MB/s Write: 172,3MB/s.

The format was exfat.

LOL you're testing your SSD, not your "SD"

C drive 74% (103/140GB)

Anyone have Roller Coaster Tycoon 3D ? Reviews are mixed. Worth a download?
31 pages later...

Don't even bother1. I picked up a copy from the library, played for an hour or two, and brought it back the next day.

1 Unless you're a huge fan of the RCT franchise. I can tell you that it's no worse than RCT4M.

Even if he was testing the actual SD card with a computer it would be irrelevant except to show that it meets minimum performance standards. You can buy a fast reader for your computer; you can't change the slow reader in the 3DS or gateway.

that doesn't give you the right to insult him as you did before tho. Regardless of him being right or wrong, I think it's obvious that people should know he's just the admin of a forum and simply might be able to communicate a bit more easily with GW's team. It doesn't mean he's inside the loop.
I removed that part of the post, as I didn't want to start a fight. There was a scandal a while back in PSX-Scene, but my feelings for the guy have nothing to do with this.

I know. I only saw that you edited it after posting. That's the right decision. You were right when you made your point and that accusation there was just ruining the rest of what you wrote

Nope. I got my certification as a game developer and saw firsthand that piracy destroys companies. Most consoles are sold at a loss, Nintendo tipped this and is selling 3DS at a slight profit, but with bundles and the like, and paying to advertise and sell their 3DS', even then, it comes out to a net loss selling the units. Piracy is bad for them, they rely on you, the consumer, buying the games to stay afloat, and with Nintendo in the position they are in (especially with the Wii U being a huge flop), they don't want the Gateway to exist. As KnightOnline said, it's simply a packaging situation. They package units months in advance in preparation for shipping them out to stores, and they will come with 9.3+ as soon as Nintendo can get that situated, but it will NOT be in the first wave in any country.

Also, hello folks! I've been lurking since less than page 100, and none of you had given me a reason to become a member and join the conversation until I saw this flagrant misunderstanding of how the game industry works, but it's given me an excuse to join the hype train.

Hope to be playing on my Gateway as much as you guys, and don't mean to start any fights, just want to keep you guys updated with the correct information!
You've done it now, you've called out Ho Nam and his boys. For the honor of Hung Hing, I've got no choice but to come out from hiding and make a post. Never thought this day would come.

This may be my first wall. But I have no choice. This is a topic that hits very close to home for me. The effect of piracy on consoles, and the eradication of loss leader hardware sales trend by Nintendo.

First of all you are partly right, there was once and era when Console manufacturers derived their entire business motto on software Royalty, and would gladly take huge losses in selling loss leader consoles to generate a massive userbase to generate massive software royalties. But sadly thanks to Nintendo, this era is gone.

From the onset of the Wii into the console wars, Nintendo became the poster child for the new generation of the console business, where by hardware sales actually generate massive profit and this motto has migrated over to this current gen, where both Sony and MS opted to release inferior hardware barely able to push 1080p nevermind 4K or anything remotely next gen in order to profit in hardware sales. Since Wii, console manufacturers have given up the loss leader motto and have adopted to Nintendo's hardware sales motto of business, where-by multiple iterations of a single hardware line are designed to generate massive revenue on hardware sales. So, the days where consoles manufacturers lost money or barely break even on consoles sales are long past us, nowadays every console sold is money in the bank, which in turn result in poor hardware performance from one generation to another.

How does piracy play a role in all this? And why is that Nintendo is knowingly placing hackable firmware on New European units that are just entering the market? Simple, piracy helps increase userbase, and thus increases bottomline, and increase the console's marketability and store shelf space.

Wii, PSP, DS, 3DS all saw very early scene-homebrew penetration and it is not by sheer coincidence that all of these consoles saw very high market penetration.

You need look no further thand 3DS vs PS Vita. The Vita to this day has not been fully hacked, and it's measely little 9million userbase reflects that. 3DS with its whopping 48million userbase benefits from the it's early scene penetration (piracy). Like it or not, there are certain markets out there that are almost completely driven by piracy, and Nintendo knows this, and because they make money from hardware sales, they can even be said to embrace it.

At the end of the day, the only people hurt by piracy are the game developers whose entire business motto is driven by software sales. The console manufacturers especially Nintendo are not heavily effected since they've all adapted their business to be hardware driven since the last gen. Nintendo started this trend, and know how to work it better than anyone, it's no surprise that their consoles are always to first to be hacked, and certainly no surprise that they will knowly release a exploitable firmware in a new territory.

End of wall.

KSP one little question to your wall now:
Isnt Nintendo financing a lot of Game Developers themselves?
So that there are always a number of nice games around?

Right, let's start by saying that I'm glad someone is actually knowledgeable about true hacking scenes here, I'm going to have fun talking with you! While you are mostly correct, Nintendo still suffers when piracy comes twofold. As you said, piracy hurts game developers, which pushes away potential 3rd party developers who may be considering making a game for the 3DS. Who's going to make a game for a 39 million customer userbase, about 1/4th of which owns a piracy device for it? Also, you can look around at some articles, Nintendo is only selling at a SLIGHT profit hardware wise. Businesses take money to run. Say the 3DS is their only product, and everyone pirates... They would go under in mere months.

Your post made sense up until this point. The reason they've released exploitable firmware on new hardware is because they've crunched the numbers on units they've already built.

The units have already been manufactured and boxed up ready for distribution until the latest update released a few weeks ago.

Say they have 1 million new 3ds just sitting on the shelf ready to be shipped with 9.2 firmware.
Nintendo have worked out the cost of taking the 1 million units away from distribution, unboxing every single one, manually flashing the firmware, repackaging and hiring temporary staff to do all this as they couldn't divert existing staff otherwise production would have to stop.

Then they've costed up assuming 1% of those 1 million consoles have been used for piracy, assuming maybe 5 lost game sales per console and added all that up.

So then you have the two costs. If the cost of labour on those 1 million units works out more than the cost of the piracy on the 1%, then they just let it through. Its not nice to know you're allowing piracy but you'd just have to take the least costly option.
