Gaming Giants Giving Millions For Earthquake Relief Countless lives were destroyed late last Friday after an earthquake and tsunami ravaged the country. The clean up process is underway, and the biggest names in gaming are doing what they can.

On Sunday, Sony Corporate stated it is giving ¥300 million (US$3.6 million) as well as 30,000 radios to the earthquake relief.

Today, Nintendo stated it is also contributing ¥300 million ($3.6 million). Joining Nintendo is Namco Bandai, which is donating ¥100 million ($1.2 million). Sega Sammy is giving ¥200 million ($2.4) and Koei Tecmo is giving ¥100 million ($1.2 million).

And smaller game companies are doing what they can. For example, 5pb is slashing the price of one of its iPhone games from ¥2,200 ($27) to ¥350 ($4.20), giving all proceeds to the Red Cross.

The entire country, the entire industry, is pulling together and doing what it can to help rebuild. And rebuild, it will.[/p]

I do a good copy and paste ya?
Anyways, it's nice to see the industry getting together and helping out. Wonder if Microsoft will help out, they probably will.

You do know there are sites where you can donate money right? It'll help a lot more than you pre-ordering a 3DS.

Well, that's great to hear. Anybody contributing is a good thing, even if it's a PR Stunt. (Not saying this is, just in general.)

Also, a $27 iPhone game? That's new to me. It's cool that they slashed the price and are donating the difference to the Red Cross, though.

They have full length handheld console class games that's the reason for a $27 price tag.

Now that you mention it... That's a good reason to buy 3DS [IMG]

On the side note, it's quite nice a that many are supporting Japan... Just saw a news that a thousand bodies were found to be washed in the coastline.... Really sad... Hope they recover soon [IMG]

That charity is trash and shouldn't be allowed to operate. They give out less then half of what they bring in. There are two people on payroll for the place that take home almost 200 thousand dollars a year, for a non-profit charity? You got to look into these shady ass donation sites before you give them a penny. All charity's tax returns are public knowledge and easily searchable.

The last sentence gave me chills (good chills, of course).

Props to all those that help out, especially to those smaller developers! Anything helps at this point.

The family who own Oxfam take home millions a year, store managers can take home £30000 a year and treeat the volunteers like slaves. And less than than 1% of proceeds end up on the frontline. Just typical in the "charity" business I'm afraid.

But this is very nice news. Now lets hope some of the European and North American devs and publishers help out a bit as well.

I'm gonna donate some money. Sure, I got it on my birthday, but the tens of thousands of lives need it more.

Glad to know people are keeping their hopes up and recovering from the catastrophe. It would be a hard to live without Japan.

    I second this notion!
