GameStop is one of the biggest names in video game sales, at least in North America. You may also know them under EB Games elsewhere. However, it looks like they may get a bit bigger with a line of kid-geared stores called GameStop Kids.

The stores will still focus on video games like other GameStop stores, but will be more kid-focused. It'll feature video games (of course) but also feature "toys and collectibles." Toys for Angry Birds, Skylanders, Minecraft, Pac-Man, Mario and Legos were among the advertised toy-video game brands.

The first store will open in Grapevine, Texas, with around 80 stores opening in the United States nationwide. Regular GameStops and EB Games will still be around, of course.

Personally, I remember when I bought an action figure at Toys 'R' Us as a kid. Are video games really the new kids toy nowadays?

If they don't carry COD then it's going to flop.

Not really, but they're just great babysitters.

Why pay some teen 20$ an hour when you can sit little Billy in front of that TV for hours?

If you think about it, it is a much better way to stock those sky landers that everyone's flipping their shiz over. They could start offering GameStop kids exclusive skylanders to hype the craze even more.

Besides, many kids and adults like to collect video game memorabilia, toys are a good outing.

Let's hope they put the shovelware in there and keep the good titles in the main stores.

I never even saw GameStop any great, and that's mainly because there are kids screaming around in those stores ALL THE TIME. I at least notice it too much whenever it happens.

If they sell toys and only kid friendly games and take the crap games from regular gamestop, that'll be great.
No more having to sift through petz and other shovelware. That won't happen though. Too many morons let their kids play saints row, call of duty, etc. I'm sure they'll do well. Love it or hate it, gamestop is the god of retail game stores.

That's fine as long as my gamestop still stocks my stupid guilty pleasure games (Rune factory, Animal crossing, and the like)

Well, by the time I'd want something from Gamestop, I'd order it, which would certainly lead me to Amazon.

Going by these comments, I somewhat expect all the kids "sneaking" into regular gameshops to buy their Mature-rated games and all the adults going to the kids-specific stores.

...and that last part sounds kinda wrong. :P

The only reason that people will go to these shops is to compromise for the fact that they don't have access to a normal gamestop or they want to collect weird toys.
