GameStop CEO Hints At Many Unannounced Titles For Nintendo Switch

Gamestop CEO, Michael Mauler, said so recently during a GameStop investor conference call(full quote):

"Yeah, I think that’s a fair question with Nintendo. I mean we know kind of what happened with Wii U. I’d say this is definitely a whole different platform than we saw in the past. We have visibility to the software. So last year was a tremendous year for the software, as well as hardware between Zelda and Mario Odyssey and all the games that they had really drove a lot of hardware sales, as well as software.
I think this year when we look at the slate of titles, many of which haven’t been announced yet, this year looks also very, very strong. So I think, at least, for 2018, we’ll continue to see the strong software slate drive additional installed base on the hardware and increase attach rate. We don’t have really visibility for 2019 yet, but for 2018 it should play out that way.”

It seems Mauler hints at a strong 2018 lineup. Does that mean we might get a lot of popular 1st-party and 3rd-party titles announced at E3? What are your predictions for Nintendo Switch's E3 lineup and beyond?

I mean probably? The Switch has easy architecture to program for and console is only a little over a year old. If it didn't have a good strong line up, it's already dead.

Even if it sounds obvious, the switch is still at the beginning of its lifespan.
So there's still the point of "touching the surface" and not take too many risks.
That's why when it could have a large lineup of new games, there's still a chance that a lot of them would be mediocre or too soon to get out of the package.
That's only my opinion, of course.

Wow, the Switch really is a console with games in development. Never would have guessed.

Let's hope it's more than just Wii U ports, though.

were already 4 months into 2018, right now its mostly indie milking games.. or just ports of games that already sold themselfs dozens of times....
tho i like my switch, we need stronger new games that are more then just 10h. gameplay

I get that you don't want to start rumors, but with the sources you provide you can safely say that Mauler says there'll be a strong lineup (which obviously isn't to say that this will be the case, as that is, as always, subject to opinion ).


My prediction for E3 is easy: metroid and bayonetta 3. They were already announced, but the average joe doesn't watch nintendo directs. I bet there'll be gameplay footage. Obviously from smash bros as well.

As for currently unannounced (that I know of...I might've missed things): if I were to bet (I don't...in fact, I don't even watch E3), I'd go with mario maker switch and a spin-of to pikmin.

nowadays i would say 1 year is when a device is mature.. there is like a new phone model every 6 months
if its been 1 year and there is nothing to play in the switch yet, i wouldn't put much hopes in it..

i dunno, i dont have a switch and pretty much ignored that system..
i was speaking about general in mobile hardware.. stuff gets released so fast, you can buy the best phone now and can only brag about it for some months until they advertise the plus model of it, or the next number of it
