Gamescom 2015 starts today - Microsoft Conference roundup

Gamescom 2015 kicks off today in Cologne - Germany. Microsoft are up first with their conference shortly and are expected to show off titles such as Crackdown, Quantum Break, Scalebound and more.

15:00 - Briefing begins, introduction including Halo, Gears of War and Fable characters
15:04 - Gregor Bieler from Xbox Germany takes the stage and welcomes the guests
15:05 - Phil Spencer takes the stage, talks about the future vision for Xbox, including Windows 10 devices
15:07 - Rare Replay launches today, it's a compilation of Rare Studio's games
15:08 - Remedy Games' Quantum Break trailer is being shown
15:11 - Quantum Break includes some neat time manipulation mechanics
15:13 - The story of Qunatum Break revolves around the world's first time machine, a malfunction of the system bestows special powers upon the protagonists
15:14 - Remedy Games' creative director Sam Lake takes the stage along with Shawn Ashmore
15:16 - A live-action Quantum Break scene is shown, teasing a series (?) to be released April 5th
15:17 - Crackdown 3 by Reagent Games is being presented, world-premier gameplay video is shown
15:18 - The game takes place in a new location and features familiar gameplay, vehicles and a multiplayer experience with destructible environments
15:19 - Hideki Kamia from Platinum Games presents Scalebound, an Action RPG about a human named Drew and his dragon
15:20 - World premiere Scalebound gameplay footage is being shown, the game is played live on-stage
15:25 - The game will feature 4-player Co-Op
15:26 - Mike Ybbara from the Xbox engineering department announces full-feature DVR functionality for the Xbox One and presents it
15:27 - Recorded live TV can be streamed to any Windows 10 device, you can schedule recordings remotely, the service is subscription-free and is coming in 2016
15:28 - The Xbox One Chatpad is presented, including a full QWERTY keyboard, two programmable buttons and compatibility with both Xbox One and Windows 10
15:29 - All future Xbox Live Gold 360 games will be compatible with Xbox One from now on. Backwards Compatibility will be available to everyone in November. The Xbox One kernel will also be updated to Windows 10's to improve compatibility with Windows devices
15:30 - Shannon Loftis announces that Killer Instinct is coming to Windows 10. Season 3 is coming to both platforms, the game will be compatible with all fight sticks it's currently compatible with on Xbox One. The game will feature cross-platform play
15:32 - Chris Charla of ID@XBOX presents upcoming independent titles that will be available soon on Xbox One and Windows 10. Koji Igarashi (Iga, creator of Castlevania) talks about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The game will be a 2.5D Action Adventure with heavy RPG elements, it recently raised 5.5 million dollars on Kickstarter
15:34 - Bloodstained will feature cross-platform play compatibility between Xbox One and Windows 10. A new unnamed character is being shown, he is a dual sword-wielding and spellcasting demon hunter
15:36 - In the next 12 months, Xbox One will have 100 titles released through ID@XBOX, including City Skylines, Train Simulator 2015 and more with Xbox One getting those as the first console. Ukulele is coming to Windows 10 and Xbox One. Team 17 is releasing a new Worms game - Worms M.M.D, featuring vehicular combat
15:38 - Ron Gilbert, creator of Monkey Island, takes the stage and presents Thimbleweed Park, coming to Windows 10 and Xbox One with "pixels so sharp they could poke your eye out", meaning a classic retro stylistic
15:39 - Sheltered will be available for download later today via Xbox Game Preview. ARK will be available for preview later this year
15:41 - Rivals of Aether, Starbound and We Happy Few will be available for preview in the next couple of months. Gameplay of We Happy Few is being shown and my, it's creepy
15:43 - Jasmine Lawrence talks about Windows 10 being the best OS for gaming Microsoft has ever made, DirectX 12 and the developers co-operating with them
15:44 - A presentation by the Final Fantasy series showcasing DX12 capabilities is being shown, it's the "crow sorceress" demo we've seen before
15:46 - Windows 10's Game DVR, Xbox Live for Windows and Xbox One hardware are all available for Windows. Windows 10 also introduces Cross-Buy and Cloud Saving with Xbox
15:48 - Jens Bergensten of Mojang talks about the newly-released version of Minecraft available for Windows 10. He also presents their new Xbox exclusive, Cobalt, featuring couch Co-Op gameplay. The game is coming out in October this year.
15:50 - World premiere footage of Dark Souls 3! From Software's done it again! Coming 2016.
15:53 - C.J. Kershner is showing footage of Homefront - The Revolution. Xbox users will get early access to the Multiplayer Beta early this winter
15:55 - The setting of Homefront - The Revolution is occupied U.S.A. This FPS includes vehicles and clever weaponry, including an RC car. Coming 2016
15:58 - Producer of FIFA, Nick Channing takes the stage and shows FIFA 16, this time including both men's and women's teams, a Legends mode allowing you to build dream teams with player-to-player chemistry affecting gameplay, as well as a FIFA manager mode
16:00 - Benefits of EA Access are being discussed, including discounts and early access - you can get FIFA 16 a week earlier (for a limited time) from the release date, which is September 24th
16:01 - FIFA 16 bundles incoming, they all include a special Xbox One, the game and EA Access, you can pre-order them today and get them September 16th
16:02 - Halo 5: Guardians footage is being shown - looks like buckets of fun with new abilities and mechanics crafted "for the pros"
16:04 - Halo shoutcasters are unveiling Colosseum - a new map. Epsilon eSports and Optic Gaming are presenting Capture the Flag gameplay on this symmetrical 2-base level in pre-recorded footage
16:09 - 1 Terabyte Xbox One Limited Edition console will be available October 20th and the console is available for pre-order right after the conference
16:10 - Executive Producer of Halo 5, Josh Holmes, announces Halo World Championship, taking place this winter with a 1 million dollars in cash prizes to fight for. Take your rifles, Spartans!
16:11 - World premiere footage of Just Cause 3 is being shown and it looks like explosive fun with loads of grappling and flying! Set the world of fire on December 1st!
16:13 - Dan Greenawalt, creative director of Forza Motorsports 6, announces that the game will be available september 15th, talks about new cars, multiplayer divisions and online events... and 3D puddles. Developers are attempting to make the game as realistic as possible, to the point of accurately replicating where puddles should be on the real-life track. Forza Motorsport 6 runs at 1080p @ 60FPS
16:17 - World premiere footage of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: The Siege, to be released on October 14th this year
16:18 - Brian Horton of Crystal Dynamics talks about Rise of the Tomb Raider's story and shows gameplay footage
16:24 - Rise of the Tomb Raider mixes stealth and action so that each player can play it differently. A demo of some of the tombs you can find in-game is shown. The game is coming November 13th
16:26 - Starting tomorrow, Xbox Daily Live will keep you up-to-date with GamesCom news
16:28 - Phil Spencer wraps up the content shown on the conference, including games form 2015 and 2016
16:28 - Bonnie Ross, head of 343 Industries, enters the stage and announces Halo Wars 2 for Windows 10 and Xbox One, World Premiere footage is being shown, the game is coming out Fall 2016
16:30 - A wrap-up video showing the highlights of the upcoming line-up is being shown

The backwards compatibility I thought was the biggest climax of the conference. Disappointed that Halo MCC wasn't announced for Windows 10 nor Sunset OverDrive, but we can all dream.

I'm excited to hear about cross-buy with Windows 10 and wonder how far Microsoft could take that idea. If well-executed and featured in top games, this could be a game-changer for PC owners who want a living room gaming experience in addition to their PC rig.

The Cross-play feautre is interesting indeed! I like how capcom is allowing this feature in their upcoming Street Fighter V game. Developers should take suit and follow. PC gamers do benefit for having top quality gaming that is if the port is good *cough* Arkham Knight *cough but the multiplayer environment wasn't always as big as console users. Hopefully the future implementation of cross-play will change this for the better.
