Hacking Gamecube backup launcher - PAL game black and white/scrolling

I have googled but nothing is working - I have a pal gamecube game and the backup launcher v2. it works but the launcher goes black and white right away with a scrolling screen. Any suggestions? I tried PAL, PAL 60 and it doesn't fix it.

EDIT - I went back down a version (Theta) and it works fine. Keeping it there for now. I believe this post will help others as well
