ROM Hack Question Game Updates - Cumulative or do i have to install them all?

Since i never had that need to update one of my .xcis before i´m now scratching my head if i have to install every single update that was released so far - or if i can simply grab the latest one and skip the rest.
Any headsup would be greatly appreciated.
