Game Freak has been allegedly hacked, with source codes for Pokemon games reportedly leaked

It appears another "gigaleak" has gone down, involving Nintendo. According to sources online, it appears that Game Freak has been hacked, resulting in internal data from the company being leaked to the public. Those involved in the hacking community or those within general Pokemon related groups are claiming that while they will not be discussing or dissecting the specifics within the leak, it initially is being claimed that there is a total of 1TB of data.

This allegedly includes the source code for Pokemon Platinum, source codes for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, beta builds of Pokemon Black and White 2, beta builds of Pokemon X and Y, and potential internal codenames for upcoming Pokemon projects. Within it are mentions of an online Pokemon game, a collaborative project between Game Freak and Studio ILCA, the potential code name of the Nintendo Switch 2 being "Ounce", and a project named Gaia, which may be the next generation of Pokemon titles.

Further details are slowly being posted on X, and as more becomes clear, we'll be sure to update this post with new information.

[UPDATE]

  • As some of the data from the gigaleak hints towards a "Gen 10" Pokemon game, industry insider NecroLipe claims that Pokemon Gaia will launch for both the Switch and its successor system.
  • Users on ResetEra claim that a playable build of Legends Z-A is included in the leak.
  • Ikkaku, Gaia-K, and Gaia-N are all codenames with Nintendo Switch product codes.
  • Synapse appears to be an "online multiplayer" game. This is the collab project with ILCA, who worked on BD/SP. One claim states that it's similar to an MMO, while another says it's closer to Splatoon.
  • Contrary to the claims of there being a version of Legends Z-A that is close to complete, the leaker has apparently said they don't wish to spoil the surprises of future unreleased games, so those will not be included in the leak.
  • The hack is the result of a phishing attempt on a Nintendo Dev Portal user.
  • Beta Gen 3 Pokemon sprites were leaked
  • Internal design documents for Gen 4 and Gen 5 were leaked.
  • An official map editor for Gen 4 is in the files.
  • Logo and boxart design from Game Freak were included.

I totally agree with you. Defending your IP is just normal.
However, I would say that Nintendo is overdoing it when it comes to that.
Also, "having it coming" has another meaning to me in this case, which would be if they were targeted by hackers in order to get these leaks. Some kind of revenge for what Nintendo is doing to the game industry. However, from what I've read in OP article (please correct me if I'm wrong), it's rather one of their employee who fell for a phishing trap, which could happen to anyone.
Noctosphere is absolutely right. They had this coming really.

What crazy news. Every time something Nintendo-related gets hacked, everyone wants to find the magic behind all the coding. All the scrapped assets and unimplemented ideas.

I recall how the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past entry on TCRF was really barren for ages. Then, you know what happened. Now, fans can spend half a day taking in all the unused and in-development content.

Reminder that this, despite looking like a bad joke, is actually part of an official Nintendo website:
Lolo 3 ,shadow blade, captain tsubasa, dragonball, bucky o hare and the entire nes abandoware games disagrees with nintendo.Thats a few examples.

If nintendo wants to bring back those assets available to sell it. They will do that huge effort to their pro consumer and loyalty fans, but for years they despise them and sued everyone who owns illegal roms.

It's very likely this. I once worked in customer support, and you'd be surprised about the kinds of phishing attempts that one working with sensitive data is supposed to watch out for. Those using the phishing route will attempt to find anything that can let them bait someone with access to such data into granting that same access to the phisher. It's not restricted to the "emails" or "fake websites" that some people think of when they think "phishing", and it can be difficult to avoid all of them. Especially if you're working in areas of the technical variety.

You guys need to just move on and accept that Pokémon isn't for you anymore, stop acting so toxic and whiny about a dang vidya gaem. Embarrassing.
You're right, people should just move on from Pokèmon and play better games like Digimon, Monster Rancher, Palworld or what, Pokèmon now is only for people without standards.

Pokemon 8th gen onwards I agree fully and then agree some more.
As for another idea, depending if someone is ok with a bit older title, Dragon Warrior Monsters.
Speaking of Digimon I should dig up my save and see what can be done.

Or you can let people like what they want to like. It's fine to play ALL of those games together. Pokémon, as a franchise, is so much more than the games, and the games themselves are great. People like you just actively want to hate shit, piss and moan about imperfections, and whine online all day. You're never happy.

The series isn't for you anymore. Move on. Stop dragging things down for others. People like you are, quite literally, the "STOP HAVING FUN!" meme, writ large.

Or perhaps you should grown some effing standards. You can't deny the quality of the newer Pokèmon games has gone down in the dumps. And its because of people like you that enable those companies to continue shit out unfinished, broken games.
I was a fan of the series. It lost me when the quality continued to worsen from the game to game. I "shit, piss, and moan" about it because I care and wish the series could return to the quality it once had. If you don't want to be educated about it, then enjoy your slop.

You do realize why they go for cheap hardware, right? Their entire modus operandi is being affordable for a family. They ALWAYS go for weaker, cheaper hardware because it sells better, and they drag the absolute best performance out it, for the best price available.
Replying to this here: Said cheap hardware really isn't worth the asking price and cause the security problems that lead to piracy and whatnot.

they drag the absolute best performance out it

Oh man, how DARE I have different standards from you, what a travesty! I'm so ashamed!

Not. Grow up. It's a video game. Stop taking stuff so seriously.

And no, quality has not worsened over time, as someone who regularly plays them all. You just WANT it to be bad, you WANT to hate it. Every damn Pokémon game since Gen 3 has been hated for a few years, then you get a Gen or two ahead, and suddenly everyone apparently loved it. This will be no different, and given how well SV have sold, I think the general gaming community that ISN'T chronically online, will agree with me.

So there are some graphical glitches, so it doesn't perform the best. Boo fuckin hoo.

And no, the hardware is cheap, and all of that cost of $200 - $300? Factory costs, shipping, advertisement, updates, continued development, staffing costs. There is so much that goes into pricing, and your kind just never think about it.

And for your last point, yes. Nintendo and the games that come out on its hardware, do absolutely bring the best they possibly can out of the minimal hardware. The damn thing can run Doom 2016, that's a feat in and of itself. You just want to be mad.
