Code:
ON YOUR WAY BACK TO EARTH
    ABOARD YOUR FIGHTER
  "THE INFINITY". YOU ARE
AMBUSHED BY MASS INSEKTORS,
          HUMANY'S
  MOST DEADLIER ENEMYS!

CHALLENGE TO THE PROTECTION
    OF "THE MOTHER EARTH"!

      NOW LET'S WAR OF
    ATTRITION AGAINST
  "THE MASS INSEKTORS".
      THE SCURGE OF
    THE HUMAN BEINGS!
xD
Oh man, I forgot how great the translation was!

Okay, this will take a bit but I can put that in the game as-is for EXTRA GLORY!

Now, there is an ending text to the one in the 2nd game...of sorts, but it is very short:

Code:
  TATAKAI WA OWATTA…

DAGA SHOURI TO HIKIKAENI
USINATTA MON WA AMARINI
      OOKKIKATTA…

   JINRUI HA EIEN NI
    HAHANARI HOSI WO
NAKAUSITE SIMATTANODA…

I want to put that in GLORIOUS ENGRISH too, but how should I go about that... Roughly, that means:

Code:
"The battle is over...

Though the cost of victory was great...

Mankind can live forever in peace on Mother Earth..."

So I want GLORIOUS ENGRISH. Can anyone think of something goofy while I hack the first titles in the game? I was thinking along the lines of:

Code:
BATTLE IS OVER!

BUT COST OF VICTORY IS SO HEAVY!

HUMANY'S ETERNAL HAPPINESS IS GET!
LIVE FOREVER ON MOTHER EARTH!
Actually, I rather like that translation, even if it is a bit too obviously wrecked.

I have a terrible power...

I am still so tempted to use the NES Ghostbusters ending with "PROOVED THE JUSTICE OF OUR CULTURE". But hey, I love the old days of the $5 translation when companies gave their programmers dictionaries and said "GO!"

I'm a non-native English speaker :P As a result, I can come up with Engrish-y sentences more easily.
I think something like that definitely could work:

THE GALACTIC BATTLE MET IT'S END!...
YET, THE PRICE OF SACRIFICES WAS SO TREMENDOUS..

FINALLY, THE IMMORTAL JOY & PEACE'S IDEAL WISH WAS BESTOWED UPON THE SPAWNS OF 'MOTHER-EARTH'.
FOREVER... PEOPLE OF HUMANITY CAN LIVE HAPPILLY EVER-AFTER, HAILING IN UNISON OUR GLORIOUS JUSTICE OF LEGEND...

(YOUR WINNER!)
(Also, UTOPIA and OMNIOUS have considerable Engrish potential.. The above definitely could use some more work)

How about..
Code:
BATTLE HAS ENDED
THOUGH VICTORY COST GREAT!

NOW HUMANY LIVE IN PEACE
FOREVER IN HAPPY ON
"THE MOTHER EARTH"!
Probably insert one more typo, maybe "VICTPRY" or something equally silly.

Now I think about it, I didn't take in account the character limit per line (I'm estimating 26 or so? Since the text has to keep 8px per char to keep the retro feel)
Another try:

BATTLE MEET IT'S END!
YET, SACRIFICES' PRICE IS
SO TREMENDOUS ...

FAINALLY, THE IMMORTAL
JOY & PEACE'S UTOPIA WAS BES-
TOWED UPON PEOPLE OF HUMANY! ...

THEY SHAL LIVE HAPPILLY ON

HAILING IN UNISSON OUR
GLORIOUS JUSTICE OF LEGEND...

Thanks everyone.

I was able to smoosh together your ideas into something short and sweet (and I guess you'll have to play and beat the game to find out). I don't want to dwell on it too much since there is other work to do but I always enjoy a good the Engrish.

Now, I have some text bugs to fix with the RPG in particular and the Arino dialogue related to the Daily Challenges...

Okay, I managed to get all of the Daily Challenge dialogue and text corrected so it appears fine on screen now! There was also a bug I found on the Tanabata (July 7) holiday that would have crashed the game but I fixed that. Even the graphics are in place now. I guess I can move on to fixing up the RPG. That needs my love pretty badly in some spots from the sounds of the test reports.

Edit> The Telephone and Chat option dialogue needs to be tested for length and position issues too, actually. (I know there are some already) I have all the text extracted and ready to compare against what is on screen, I just need to do it.

Okay, quite a bit has happened in one day.

First off I figured out a rather important warning screen (actually two) is a tiled graphic and whipped up something with a hex editor, my weapon of choice for these things.

cautionscreen.png

Next I learned the ending credits sequence is one gigantic tiled image as well which will make it a nightmare only because it is so large. I may have to write a little conversion script for this. However, there is a lot of space to work with so I could slip in the names or aliases of everyone that helped with this project.

There are other graphics done but they are not in the game yet.

While I'm waiting on that I went and fixed up the chat and phone dialogue scripts. There were a fair number of issues with it including a few spots where it would crash though I think I caught all the bugs now. I am presently fixing up the RPG.

EDIT> Okay, fixed up the Haggleman Names in Triotos DX. Originally it was the Hepburn romanization of "HAGURUMAN"

Quick update. I'll post images tonight if I can get time later:

* The last of the cartridge images are in the game
* The manual images are done (title/page template)
** This does not include the handful of inline images that have game screenshots that have Japanese like the RPG/Adventure
* Updated Haggleman Koume title screen
* Updated "The End" screen for the main game

Currently:

* Fixing the Daily Challenge titles and contents. I/the script miscalculated the length limits and the ones that go over the limit can crash the game as a bunch of us found out today. There is no serious problem; it will just take a bit of time to work through this.

Hopefully at least some of the magazine artwork and maybe the manual inline images will all be in the game by next week. There is also the Mutekiken special moves and the Triotos/Triotos DX tile swaps for a handful of tiles with Japanese written on them.

Geez, so many posts in a row. Is it sleepy summer weather there or am I moving like I'm hopped up on drugs.

Okay, here is what is new in the past two days:

* Fixed Daily Challenge titles/text widths (tested a few weeks worth by changing the system date)
* Fixed Chat/Phone dialogue conversations
* Updated Cartridge Art. Includes all games now.
* Updated Haggleman Koume Title
* Fixed names in Triotos DX to use Haggleman instead of Haguruman
* Game Manual images (cover/template) is in English
* "The End" screen at the end of the final credits has been added
* Added "Caution" screen when starting a new game with save data present
* Typo fix in Mutekiken Game Manual

And a few screenshots. I probably shouldn't post game endings or anything.

Graphic-wise, what is left to do is:
* The Mutekiken special moves
* The Triotos/Triotos DX tiles for the handful in Japanese
* The Manual/Magazine inline game images that have Japanese
* The Magazine Artwork (done, not in the game yet) <- This is the last "big" one
* The ending credits for the main game (yes, it is stored as one massive tiled graphic)
* Figuring out where the stupid "counter" for enemies is in the RPG and removing it.

...and that is it in terms of content, I think. The rest of the work is debugging the Adventure/RPG in addition to fixing what the testers have already found. Completion is inevitable.

If you're referring to the lack of comments as of late, I'd say most people don't really have much to comment on at this point since the patch is nearing completion, at least nothing that wouldn't cause the project to be delayed in one way or another with their suggestions about last-minute changes.

Although if you're implying that you want more suggestions, one minor thing I'm wondering about are the names of the fictional companies that made the Ace Detective and Demon Returns games: seeing as IROHANIDO refers to the Japanese alphabet order and since you're willing to chance the name of Mutekiken to what it was called in one of the magazines in the first game, you might want to consider changing that name to some sort of silly pun, such as ABCware. As for Demon Returns, Degoichi doesn't really say much to me and why their logo involves a steam train is beyond me as well, but I assume it's probably another pun.

I agree with the others. You did a solid job, (I doubt even official localizations would care about the kanji in the moves) there's little else to add.
For the counter, do you mean something like this? コ (well, not "ku" but something similar)
While I can live with it, you could replace it with "x" (Enemy 3x) other than erasing it completely, just saying ;)

The Kung Fu moves are in the game now:

mutekikenarts.png

And about half of the magazine page art (backgrounds) is in the game now.

About the "counter", there is a single kanji 体 after the number of the enemies you face during battle. You don't need a counter suffix like that in English so I would just like to remove it but I can't find that specific case of that character in the rom as text so I figured it was a graphic. Then the problem is I can't find it anywhere. What I might try is changing the battle window and overlaying a big black strip over the right bit of just the enemy info window...though I have a feeling that might cause other problems.

I'm still working on fixing the text errors like spelling and grammar with the adventure and RPG and I have a table file in progress so I can edit the ending credits scroll. Since there is so much room to work with I can slip in the translation team too, perhaps.

Tonight I'll try to post more if I get anything done today.

Edit> I'm wondering if I should make my own rgc2 site since I am constantly being confused for just some guy working under the original team and I don't have access to that site to change it (not that it had been updated much at all recently, mind you). Maybe it can wait until after everything else is finished with the game and it is just a matter of correcting typing errors or minor fixes after the fact. This is more an issue on response to the videos I post and comments elsewhere online, though.

Edit again> The patch at its current size is just over 2MB. When the rest of the magazines are in place and everything else is done the patch should still be under 3MB but is that a norm size for a game patch like this?

The patch size is okay, Aaron... actually it's much smaller than most of us expected, I think. Modern games often have 20MB+ patches.

You definitely need a site, man. If you don't have the time to make one, I can probably craft you one in a few days... and maybe even use my host for it. I would just need a domain, because I don't have one lying around. Hit me back.

Well I certainly have enough pictures, videos and info for a whole site. I'm even tempted to share how part of it was changed (the same stuff in this thread basically)

I was thinking originally even a wix or weebly or jimdo site since those are quick to set up and look good. I could host a site on my domain but I don't mind paying a few dollars for its own domain. If you have an idea and want to run with it I'm all open to suggestions and any samples you want to make. The only big thing for me is being able to have control enough to at least be able to edit the site/content. If I set it up this isn't an issue but I've had issues in the past when I had someone else make a site and I couldn't do anything with it despite the original creators abandoning it.

Edit> I've sent a list of the inline graphics in the manuals and magazines to the art team (that need retouching) That should do it for those things.

For the that persistent kanji, maybe you could compare both the JP and US version's code, text and graphics in the first game to see how they changed stuff in the RPG for the translation and then crossreference it with this game? You'd think the battles would be pretty similar, at least based on their appearance.

That's a very valid concern, Aaron... maybe you should set up a blog, then? It would also be a good place to centralize the distribution of the patch and such, so that there is an official hub rather than "oh, it's on Filetrip". I would still do the site, anyway... but this might be an even better idea.
