I never owned a GBA before my DS lite and I've never played a GBA game. I'm tempted to get the version of the G6 lite that supports GBA games but why spend the extra cash if I would never use it? Are there GBA games that are as good or better than DS games? Are DS owners still playing their GBA games or is it more a case of once you switch you never (or rarely) go back? What would I be missing out on if I opted for the cheaper cart?

those are pretty stupid questions...
you could as well ask "are there any PS2 games that are as good or better than GameCube games"

of course there are...when there's a good GBA game, there's absolutely no reason for a DS owner not to play that game

If DS is your first steps into Nintendo's portable, then you have missed A LOT of great games. Go with the standard model.
F'rinstance?
I don't have a flashcart yet so there are plenty of great DS games I still need to catch up on, and I haven't finished the 3 games I bought with my DSL (MKDS, NSMB, MPH), and keeping up with any great new DS games will all keep me pretty busy. Are there enough GBA games that I must play to justify the additional expense?

You'll be missing out on much if you get the NDS-only version. Cough up that extra couple of dollars and buy the G6 w/ GBA.

(I'd say Kingdom Hearts alone is reason enough to part with the moneyz.)

EDIT: And the entire Super Mario series, and the Zelda series, and the Metroid Prime series, and the Advance Wars 1 and 2, and the Megaman / Battle Network series, the Castlevania series... (those are must-play games.)

And I am tempted to mention Pokemon, but you don't really have to play those

All in all, there are over 2000 GBA games, and I'm sure you'll find some that interest you.

There are tons of awesome GBA games. If you haven't played any gba games before, I'd definitely get the one with GBA support. I pre-ordered the pro because I already have a GBA flash cart and I've owned a gba since it came out. The first game I played on my DS lite was a gba game(Zelda: Minish Cap)

It does seem a bit silly to cut myself off from a vast library of potentially worthwhile games just to save a few bucks.

I guess the GBA is not as "old school" as I suspected, and DS users haven't turned their backs on their GBA games. So answer me this... how many GBA games versus DS games are on your flashcart?

If I allocated room for, say, 5 GBA games on my G6 lite what would you recommend?

what games do you like? Personally, I'd probably do Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Zelda: Minish Cap, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Advance Wars. Advance wars 2 is awesome too. All the castlevanias are very awesome too. 5 GBA games isn't enough.

i never played any gba game on my supercard cause there were enough great DS Games that i prefer cause of their technical advantage.
But i played Zelda TMC on GBA and it was great, so sure there are many wonderfull gba games, but if you havent enough time to play all great nds games theres no need for the gba support.

But i have another important question, is there any homebrew stuff that NEEDs the gba mode? ScummVM for example is very important for me.

I have the m3 miniSD perfect right now and it has GBA and DS compat. However, i only have 1 GBA games in there that's minish cap. It looks like it's a great game. It's very enjoyable and the colors are SUPERB on the DSLite compared to oldschool GBA. GBA games are more enjoyable now than ever before.

However, I find that there's a lot of great DS games out there. I don't think i would have enough time to play them all. so really, I've only played minish cap for 20 minutes vs. other games for hours un-end.

I preordered the G6 lite pro becuase of the $20 reduction and I probably won't miss the GBA function. came out to $86CND shipped.

yeah if you already own a flashcart with GBA support, it's better to just ditch that feature if you're going for the G6 pro since you can always hop back to your other cart whenever you feel like playing some GBA games..

Heck I still play SFA3U or KoFEX2 GBA since the DS has nothing great in terms of 1 vs 1 fighters

Oh yeah, GBA has Super Puzzle Fighters so hurrah to that too.. Pick up and play goodness

I keep all the mario games on my GBA flash cart at all times, so I would recommend those. Including Yoshi's Island. Minish Cap was great. Mario vs Donkey Kong.

All of you are forgetting something...emulation.

The GBA can be emulated for free and you can still have a good experience. I finished all of Yoshi's Island on VisualBoyAdvance and I had as good of an experience as I did if I played it with my GBA SP.

DS emulators are pretty much hog-wash right now (none of them can play commercial games) and you can't get as well as an experience on a emulator as you can with the actual unit.

My advice (assuming that you're ordering from Winsunx): save yourself some money since the shipping on the G6 Lite Pro (this is the one w/o GBA support) will alone bump you up to the price of a regular G6 Lite (with GBA support). Not only that, you'll have to buy either a Passcard 3/SuperKey. So that's another $18.50 (assuming that this is your first time buying a flashcart for the DS).

Just DL a emulator now and enjoy some GBA games. You don't need a G6 Lite (with GBA support) to do that.

all the usual places will sell the G6 lite, just that Winsunx is the only place taking preorders

And the PC is the last place I would be to play a GBA game.. I'd rather do it on my XBox instead if I play it at home
