No, once you have a coldboot exploit, you can load any code you want regardless of what Switch version OS is on the hardware. There is already a team working on u-boot for Switch, which could be launched at coldboot time to then load Linux, BSD, whatever OS you want (as long as it's ARM-based).

Only differences between Switch OFWs, as far as we know, is how we achieve the CFW. All of the firmwares will be able to all accomplish the same goal of installing CFW. And the CFW will be the same for everybody. I don't see any reason why a developer would make homebrew exclusive to a certain firmware since most people will update to the latest firmware once it comes out.

You would need to repack the SHIELD version and drivers, and perhaps rewrite or patch something here and there... I guess.

Do you have some sauce regarding this ?
Wouldn't it be great to have the switch act like a Nvidia Shield with some sort of dual boot ? I can allready see the Switch doing all the Kodi work at home

The same work a $40 rasp pi could be doing? I get people like to tinker but I really don't see the appeal of a $300 device that other things can handle for less money. Now connecting to a Kodi/Plex server from the Switch I could see, but that could likely be an app developed for Atmosphere anyway.

So I have a 3.0 switch. What would I lose if I update to 3.0.1? I want to play SMO. I don't care about home brew for now. I can wait for atmosphere. What would I lose? Will it matter once Fusee Gelee is released? Will I have to open the console?

When you own one and not the other then the cost is either nothing extra or $40 extra

You'd lose an immediate coldboot software exploit, but the hardmod will still work

Well, this looks like a good time to learn.
Just get some coke and snacks, and make it an adventure.
On the good side, now you can enjoy updates on games, DLCs, eShop, online, etc.

You won't have to, supposedly it just involves shorting a connection

so is it just a chip that you just insert/replace inside of a switch?

Anyone know if the softmods for 4.1 was patched for 5? Since Kate said they wanted to use it to poke around on the new switch it must not have been patched

Or perhaps she has a Ninja inside Nintendo assembly plant that knows the first Marikos come with 4.1 /s

PS: But why did they add Mariko support on 5.0 then... Hmmm, don't send the payment to that Ninja! Bad Ninja!

Honestly speaking, this is the only thread where I'm really confused with the term 'coldboot.' Because normally when we say coldboot, it's accessing CFW right after a cold (well) boot or a restart. So any switch once f-g is accessed and atmosphere is installed should have the capability of coldbooting the cfw. But why is it confusing here? Maybe the term 'coldboot' is used here instead of 'softmod' or what? What am I missing?

The difference between the various exploits is whether they're software or hardware, from what I gather. All of them support booting directly into CFW once installed, but only =<3.0.0 consoles have access to a software 'sploit

I wonder if your 40$ rasp pi can run anything like Zelda BOTW of the switch...

Same way why you buy a expensive PS4 if you can buy a 50$ super powerful console on ebay that runs 2D super top of the line in graphics\physics games gameboy like... :). I don't see the appeal of going to a PS4 or even a Switch too... Oh wait, PS4 Pro is just hundreds of times more powerful than a 50$ ebay crap gaming console...
