Forza Horizon 5 Races to PlayStation 5: Xbox Exclusive Goes Multiplatform

840_560.jpeg

Forza Horizon 5, previously exclusive to Xbox and PC, is set to launch on PlayStation 5 this spring, marking the first time a mainline Forza title will be available on a Sony console. Developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game offers an expansive open-world racing experience set in a fictionalized version of Mexico. The PlayStation 5 version is being developed by Panic Button in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, ensuring parity with existing versions.

Players on PS5 can anticipate access to the same extensive content as their Xbox and PC counterparts, including nearly 900 cars, over 40 thematic game updates, and two major expansions: Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure. These expansions and previously released car packs will be available for purchase separately. Notably, the game will support cross-play across Xbox consoles, PC, and PS5, allowing players to connect and race together regardless of their platform.

This move signifies a significant shift in Microsoft's approach to console exclusivity, emphasizing a "game first, not platform first" philosophy. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has indicated that more cross-platform releases may be forthcoming. The PlayStation 5's hardware capabilities also raise the possibility of features like virtual reality support, though no official announcements have been made regarding PlayStation VR2 integration. With the addition of Forza Horizon 5, the PS5 becomes a compelling choice for racing enthusiasts, offering access to both the Forza and Gran Turismo franchises.

there's really no need to even own a console these days. they are a dying race
$1000+ Gaming PC capable of playing new AAA games -or-
$300-$500 Gaming console capable of playing new AAA games.
Absolutely not a dying race, more gaming consoles are releasing nowadays than ever in the past, especially in the handheld market.

The thing here tho is that MS are starting to realize that "if you can't defeat 'em join' em" routine. Expanding their IPs to Sony consoles as well as GP coming to Switch 2, selling software instead of hardware, is just the sort of win/support they need rn. Love them or hate them, if this pans out well we might see more games from the Xbox's side for all and that can't be bad, can it?

There's really no point in there even being a Xbox 5, but M$ has so much $ they can buy certain countries so they can have zero exclusives lose a ton of money and still continue to make consoles if they want.

At some point this was bound to happen. The question that remains, though: Will M$ allow all titles to be multiplatform? Rumors swirling about Master Chief Collection coming to the Switch 2 and PS5.

They are losing money when it comes to hardware. All this shows is if they wanted they could go third party and it would be more profitable to them, but losing money to them doesn't really matter so I expect there will be an Xbox 5.
Yea they've already said they are working on Xbox next gen, and a handheld console also. And Phil Spencer said they will continue making consoles. They have always lost money or sold they consoles at a loss, which is good for us consumers.

Maybe gradually. Atleast in this gen, new Xbox exclusives would stay atleast a year until they'd go to other platforms, definitely not immediately. Not sure if they'll continue the same way next gen, since we don't know if they'll have a another Xbox or not, and that is a major factor. Chances they won't, unless something happened that proved it's worthwhile to have another one.

Once they put Halo on Playstation it may as well be over.

You must be a PS fanboy and wish that will happen, but it wont. Rumors are they will be releasing Halo, Gears of War, Flight SIM and others on other platforms like PS and Switch2. I think its a good thing for gamers, we all can enjoy the games no matter what console we have. Wish PS would do the same, but then again they don't have that many good exclusives anyways.

Now i just wonder if we'll see it on the Switch 2.

This seems like a perfect game to play on the go!

Now if they could put KI on other platforms as well, bring all the major platforms into the game just so we can say that "KI is back on a Nintendo platform for the first time since KI Gold on the N64"

Why does that make me a PS fanboy if I say MS's most popular franchise being on Playstation hurts them as a brand? It just does. You're being the fanboy by not liking the infomation I gave you. I don't really care about Playstation I'm still mad at them for making a $700 Pro with no disc drive. If they go digital only for PS6 I'll just game on PC/Switch 2, so no I wouldn't say that qualifies me as a fanboy.

When you put all your games on other systems it gives less reasons for someone to buy your system. I abandoned Xbox during Xbox One but I have a gaming PC so I don't miss it what so ever. Why would I? I can get the same games on PC.

There still is use for consoles, it is still easier and cheaper for dummies, I would agree that in the near future there will be no use for consoles. I think the way things are going helps makes the transition to PC-only future smoother.

Yep.

But the good thing about this is, that it fills the gap for a DriveClub 2.

Hope so even if it's downgraded as FH5 is one of the best racing games out there.

Well the game is 4yo right? It's a good move from MS to grab some extra cash imo.

They'll be fine but if they put all of their exclusives elsewhere, even not immediately, it will hurt them in a long run.

Let's say i wanted some Xbox games but would have to get Xbox to get it, I would buy the Xbox.

But if I could just wait and get them elsewhere, I'd just do that.
