Forza Horizon 5 Races to PlayStation 5: Xbox Exclusive Goes Multiplatform
Forza Horizon 5, previously exclusive to Xbox and PC, is set to launch on PlayStation 5 this spring, marking the first time a mainline Forza title will be available on a Sony console. Developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game offers an expansive open-world racing experience set in a fictionalized version of Mexico. The PlayStation 5 version is being developed by Panic Button in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, ensuring parity with existing versions.
Players on PS5 can anticipate access to the same extensive content as their Xbox and PC counterparts, including nearly 900 cars, over 40 thematic game updates, and two major expansions: Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure. These expansions and previously released car packs will be available for purchase separately. Notably, the game will support cross-play across Xbox consoles, PC, and PS5, allowing players to connect and race together regardless of their platform.
This move signifies a significant shift in Microsoft's approach to console exclusivity, emphasizing a "game first, not platform first" philosophy. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has indicated that more cross-platform releases may be forthcoming. The PlayStation 5's hardware capabilities also raise the possibility of features like virtual reality support, though no official announcements have been made regarding PlayStation VR2 integration. With the addition of Forza Horizon 5, the PS5 becomes a compelling choice for racing enthusiasts, offering access to both the Forza and Gran Turismo franchises.
