Hacking formatting an SD card

My SD card is really screwed up and I don't know how it got that way. I seem to have this problem while experimenting with homebrew. Anyway I have an SD reader built into my computer and when I stick the SD card in and go to open it explorer locks up everytime. I would usually right click on it in My Computer to reformat but even when I right click on it it freezes explorer and I have to restart it. Any tips on how to format my card?

sounds like the card is pretty dead, try another computer just in case.

from the sound of it I would think so, but it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion (aka try it on another computer with a different card reader). I know certain homebrew may corrupt memory but killing it entirely is rare. Usually it's just the file structure is messed up and you can run something like chkdsk or scandisk on it to fix it.....but from what you're describing it sounds bad.

Yeah I tried it on another computer, both dell laptops with sd readers built in but the same thing. I have tried chkdsk but I will. Probably dead though.

i had simillar problem and i just got a usb sd card reader and it solved it. i think you should get one. if you do let us know how you got on o.k.

hey Lexus8...what kind do you have? i got a Red Mica (burnt orange) 2001 Lexus IS300


anyways, i would try it on a differany brand computer with a diffent brand card reader, a usb is pretty cheap. try that....
