    Hi all,
I had by Xbox360 flashed a couple of years a go with a basic backup firmware (cannot go online)
Not sure what drive it is, but the tray is grey.

I currently only have a laptop and was wondering if any one could guide me in the right direction of how to flash for going online.

    thanks very much

edit: worked out its a toshiba samsung i believe

Hmm. Do you have access to a desktop, or does your laptop have external SATA port? You gonna have to have a way to hook up the drive to the computer.

just a laptop, but I think my mate has sata. If so, what would the steps be for flashing and what would be the best firmware to use?

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=157263 or the other faq have most of it. Long story short rather than hacking drivesby soldering/pulling it apart as yours probably had to these days we use a specific chipset of sata cards (external cards usually (as in PCI or PCMCIA), onboard occasionally (few motherboards have it though)).
The magic chipset is via6421 (that includes 6421a and the like) for external cards and most plain via chipsets if onboard (8237 is usually given).

If you are lucky though you will have an MS25 samsung which can be flashed with most but if not just get the sata card (they go for around £10 and are quite useful for stuff other than 360s and when your friends/family find out what you can do....).

People will tell you to find a PC and I am inclined to agree, you can however get laptops to work as some PCMCIA cards have the suggested (read might as well be required) chipset:
http://www.cross-mark.com/sata-serial-port...card-p-113.html (never heard of the site before I linked it just now).
I think ebay has some as well (type via6421 PCMCIA into a search engine)

Back when you did it there were probably a few firmwares, today everyone that updates/wants to go online uses iextreme. The two versions are iextreme 1.51 and 1.6, the only thing 1.6 has over 1.51 is the ability to dump games using the drive but as you are going straight to upgrading you might as well.
Auto xbins ( http://www.360mods.net/index.php?name=Down...tails&id=29 ) is the easiest way to connect to xbins FTP (list of stuff there http://www.xbins.org/ ) to grab the required files.

    Personally I would read:
http://360mods.net/index.php?name=Download...tails&id=61 (site is down/having issues right now but seach for "textbooks 360 flashing" and you should be able to find a mirror).

Most people just use dosflash or jungleflasher rather than iprep though.
