I was working on a customers OLED switch that as a older picofly in it, the nand adapter was loose so I desoldered the anchor points and pushed it in a little bit
Started working good, so i put it into the assembly
Console turning on + displaying perfectly, on NO SD screen
Realize I forgot the nand shield, take PCB out and put it back on
Put it back in assembly, test again
Screen is completely black
Weird, reseat the screen ribbon cable
Screen is completely yellow but i can see NO SD in the back
Try reseating + cleaning etc a few times same problem
I'm quite new to this work so I admit I'm not that knowledgeable or experienced but I can't find any information about what this problem could be and wondering if anyone could provide some tips or advice on how I could try to fix it.
After doing like 10~ OLEDs I've caused damage on 2 boards, the other time the screen was just black but, both times there has been damage its related to the display. Is there a sensitive component I need to be more aware of? I am using a ESD wrist wrap, a pinecil v2, hakko non magnetic esd safe tweezers, have a amazon soldering mat, im disconnecting the battery as soon as I can and making sure the console is turned off.
Maybe it's just not I'm not being ESD safe enough, any tips on that?
Maybe it's not damage? Someone told me sometimes stuff gets into the port for the screen's ribbon cable and maybe its that but I've tried cleaning it, but perhaps I'll look there with a microscope
I haven't damaged a single V1 V2 or Lite just these oleds seem to be a problem, wondering if i'm alone in this or is this a problem other people experience as well?

Damaged screen ribbon connector? They're extremely fragile, more so than other ribbon connectors for some reason. Easily the most fragile part of a Switch.

I tried it in a new screen, same issue

Sound like damaged ribbon cable.
Tried it in a new screen, same issue. For both consoles

For the record I tried PCB in a entirely different assembly

A new screen won't help if the connector is damaged. You need a new mainboard (or a lot of luck, and skill with a hot air station... those connectors are tough to replace, they tend to just melt)

Oh pardon me, I thought you just said the ribbon cable.

Thanks a lot for the reply, will consider for the future

Perhaps I'll keep the next one or the current one I have as a donor to practice screen port replacements

At least it can still be used as a docked only console.
