The first arcade game I ever remember playing was Pac-Man, the reason why I remember it so vividly is because I thought the goal was to go eat the ghosts right away! I was so surprised when it didn't work... I think I was 4 years old.
Growing up in silicon valley, we had access to computers and consoles when they first came out, because the manufacturers were like 30 minutes away at most.
Our first computer was the Apple II+, and the first game I can remember on it was an old Integer Basic game called Cycle Jump. Our first console was the Atari 2600 (it was called the Video Computer System back then,) and the first game I remember on it was Breakout.
From the time I can first remember seeing a video game I knew it was my creative medium of choice. I been playing on every platform I could get my hands on ever since. I've even started writing them.
Nowadays there are a great many creative disciplines you can apply to gaming. The most important thing is always gameplay, though. So many in the industry have lost sight of that because all they see is dollar signs. It is fortunate that there are some who remember gaming's roots and put gameplay first and foremost.
