Hacking Firmware for my N-card

I just got it and I'm kind of confused. The box and cartridge say N-card. When I turn it on the DS says DSlinker. When I select it in the menu it take me to a japanese OS that says N-card. What firmware should I run on it? Preferably something thats in english. Also how do I know what save type to use?
