Hey all.

Looks like most info I can find is a few months old so just wanted to confirm.
With BF coming up I'm tempted to *finally* get a PS4.
From what I can see it looks like it is only possible to hack for backups if you are running FW 5.0.5 or earlier.
However, it also appears that any system I buy new is likely to have 5.5.0+.
Is this correct?

Is it also correct that it is impossible to downgrade to an exploitable FW?

I found sites like this easily with google:
http://ps4portal.net/ps4-downgrade-to-1-76-official/

But my guess is they are bogus.

Am I pretty much out of luck if I'm looking to spend $200 on a *new* system that can be exploited?

Thanks

Yes - that was my first resource... but I see it hasn't been updated in 2 months so:

a) Wanted to confirm that it was most recent - especially the part about no legitimate downgrade path.

and

b) Confirm that any new system I am likely to buy will be past 5.0.7

thanks

The OP was last edited on Thursday, check the recent posts, I document the changes.

A, downgraders are fake.

B, use PS4ident ;)

Thanks. I accidentally scrolled down to the second post with the Sept. date :D

PS4ident is nice idea, but likely I will have to be ordering online, so unlikely I can see the serial #'s before I buy.

Is there any recent anecdotal evidence about buying new systems? Is there still a decent chance I could get a new one that had exploitable FW or is that pretty unlikely these days? I supposed I could always order online during the sales and return to the store unopened to exchange it if PS4ident doesn't have good news. I just don't know if worth the hassle if there is only 5% chance I might get one with proper FW.

@bengalih PS4ident does the best it can with the info provided.

The more info the better the confirmation.

Certain models are guaranteed to be under 5.5, go for the older bundles like destiny, GTAV, with older models bundled.

Exploitable models are harder and harder to come by, however you might get lucky with a smaller retailer offloading old stock for Black Friday. Your best bet as stated by KiiWii is to look into older bundles; the Wikipedia page has a pretty exhaustive list of bundles and the FW they come with, although it seems there's more FW data for Pro models:

Buying a used/refurbished ps4 that specifically says 5.05 on Ebay or Amazon is your best option if bundles are too pricey for you. Looking for a pro will be pricey aswell

God of war limited edition is the best option for PS4 Pro imo
Which should be around $500-550 USD

Yeah it works great but it's the obvious Ds factor you loose from it it's not like playing atari games on atari because Nintendo actually use to give a reason to buy their hardware
