Released earlier this year, the indie game Firewatch will reportedly have a movie adaptation.

Excepted from an exclusive article by The Hollywood Reporter:

If you missed it, our very own @Tom Bombadildo reviewed Firewatch and gave it a solid 8/10.

Following a streak of video game movie adaptation, it remains to be seen if this one will break the apparent "curse" plaguing the genre.

I loved the game. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Seeing how the game was mostly an interactive story...a movie could potentially work. But at the same time, is there even a point, if both would be so similar to each other? Oh well. Hopefully it turns out good, as I liked Firewatch.

Upon this news, eveyone kept their fingers crossed, hoping that crossed fingers would somehow break, not their fingers, but the prevailing curse on bad video game movie adaptation, once and for all...

Most of the game was just spoken dialogue while you walked around as a means to give you something to do during the talking. I wonder how they'll turn that into a movie, because a movie where 80% of the time is spent looking at a guy talking into a walkie talkie doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

It's going to be shit. They are going to completely ignore the game's story and throw random shit at the screen, then reveal the plot twist in the trailer. Because that's what they do to video game movies.

The game is practically a movie. How braindead is the audience that they'll remove all player interaction and then call it a movie? Who is this appealing to?

As much as I liked Firewatch, this whole film this is just a terrible idea. The game is basically an interactive movie on it's own, unless they go about drastically changing everything in the story there's just no point for anyone who played the game to see it.

To be fair, "let's plays" aren't watched so much for the games as they are for the morons screaming bloody murder and making dick jokes while pretending to fuck boxes.

People who watch Long Plays would probably be the more appropriate audience, since they're generally void of the shit commentary and just focus on the game.

I watch Game Grumps for the commentary. Who would watch Lets Plays for the game?

If I wanted to live vicariously through a game being played off Youtube, i'd want a video without commentary.

I liked the dialogue in this game. It's extremely linear but I didn't mind - it was very entertaining for what it's worth.
