Pay DLC is getting shove in Nintendo faces by the masses(devs and gamers alike). :(
/ partly jk

Anyway, hopefully Nintendo will do it well to show other devs how to do it...

Well depending,
I love Fire Emblem even thaught for me it was to late to start with the "old" ones and there were only a few i could actually play ... i think i started with a GBA one and jumped to Wii and tried out a few in japanese but couldn't enjoy (even with fan translation ... these often feel not right)
but for a new Fire Emblem in 3d i wouldn't mind paying for DLC as long as they are worth their money not like in some xbox360 games where you pay like 10 bucks only to get some ingame money and one special item or something like that -.-V

I'm a big fan too, and I've played the GBA Japanese one with a fan patch, it felt great! I don't know what you're complaining about D: In the whole game there were only 2 or 3 things that weren't translated, otherwise the game was perfectly playable, I completed it :)
I've played 4 FE games now, and waiting on the fan patch for the next DS one, some people on here are doing it :grog:

Probably shit DLC until they have real additions like horse armor.

IDK honestly though. Handheld DLC hasn't been significant honestly. It's mostly been "costume packs" and stuff like that. I'm guessing with these new age consoles things will change but I'm wondering if it'll be either "high quality" DLC like Borderlands (YES BORDERLANDS HAS GOOD DLC) or "low quality" DLC like horse armor.

If it adds more chapters, story, instead of colors or weapons, I'll gladly pay for it.

I'd be in support of it if the initial release has a considerable amount of content or is discounted at retail in order to justify future content.

I think though that what Nintendo might do with this idea for a game like Fire Emblem is add side stories and allow players to play through alternate pathing, Sacred Stones is a prime example where you have to choose which character you are going to play through the story as and it ultimately changes how the game progresses. Being able to play through the initial part of the game but not having alternate path choices introduced could really open up a lot of story telling and drastically increase the play value over time. The thing is that Nintendo also needs to offer the content in consistent quantities and with a lot of play value for the dollar if they wish to do it.

DLC is always optional.

You buy a game, it's complete. At least, that's what it should be. DLC should almost always be just extra content.

Again, my motto stands: if you don't like it, don't buy it. in the end nobody will justify it enough for you but you yourself.

I like DLC, it's a way to make the game cheaper at the start by including less content then only people who want the full or more developed game can pay the extra whatever money to get the rest.
Not only that, but it allows the developers to give faster releases because they don't have to worry about completing the game before release.
Ever played Sonic '06?

For those that didn't watch the stream, a cropped video of the game can be seen here, along with a few screenshots from the short clip. Likewise, here's the clip itself.

It seems that everyone missed that my post was meant to be sarcastic. I feel that most DLC should be included with the game and without it the game is not complete. I have seen DLC that unlocks more story to the game... etc... there is enough space on the cartridge to fit it, why not include it?

DLC is made after the game is released. At least that's how it should be. How can you include something on a cart that's made after the release?

A lot of DLC is content that is ready for the game and even some times left in the game, and all you do is buy an unlock key for the content. Othertimes, and developers have admitted this, content is planned to be ready for the game's release date, but then is cropped out not because it's not ready, but because it's "not needed." And then with this excuse, it's given to you as DLC later on.

A lot of the time it isn't brand new content that's being developed. It's old content that was dropped, already planned early on, or snippets of development that's already complete. And they get away charging you a good amount for such a small amount of content. Man, expansion packs have really died...

All the games I purchased that had DLC were the full price as any other game.

Unless you mean a game that would normally be worth $100, but they release $60 of the game, and the rest is through DLC? Eh, that's debatable if the DLC is actually worth it...for example, with Call of Duty, it's not (in my opinion, of course).
