Square Enix is considering Vita and smartphone support for Final Fantasy XIV, with access to inventory and in-game item purchases, Yoshida said.

"Not just the Vita, but also smartphones, so that kind of access will be allowed," Yoshida said. "That will open the door to things like applications that people can used to check their inventory, or check the market and purchase things from the auctions."

Yoshida said Square is also still speaking with Microsoft about an Xbox 360 version, but its focus now is mostly on releasing it on PS3.

I'd love to see a 360 version but I don't think it will happen.

When I saw 'Vita', I thought it was a port. When I saw 'Smartphone', not so much anymore...

So basically, you'll be able to organize your inventory and such using these devices, but not play the game? I don't get the point of doing this. /:

I think they should finish off and re-release the main game before worrying about apps for it :P

Well I agree if it is on 3DS. If it is on Vita it would be cool. :)

I seriously doubt the 3DS could handle a game like FFXIII. I don't think the Vita could either. Graphics are one thing, the size of the game is something else.

Also, whatever happened to that rumored FFXI port to the Vita? I know this wouldn't be a full version of FFXIV but still, seems kinda funny that Squenix is juggling two MMOs at the same time.

They could split the game into cartridges, that would be a lot of 3DS cartridges... But still graphical I think it is possible on vita, i have not seen it in live action, but still. Guild wasn't there some sort of stream your PS3 games to PS Vita option? What if they lower the graphical level of the game? Playing movies would be possible battles would get framerate issues. The more I talk the less i believe it is possible...

Soulx, the 3DS can do more then we think....

This could never be played on the 3DS :rofl2:
Even on the Vita it'd be a stretch.

Streaming the game isn't the same as processing it. I believe the PS3 would still be doing all the grunt work, the Vita is just playing the video of the game. And if you compress the cutscenes a lot then they'll look like garbage. There's also a huge issue with size.

And the 3DS is no where close to a Xbox 360 or a PS3. If you think it can play FFXIII in its current form then you're joking.

How can you play an MMO with multiple cartridges especially as the save data is on the cartridge?

I'm going to play Starcraft II on my Neo Geo Pocket Colour.

They aren't, they are releasing an app that manages your inventory.

Enjoy FFXIII on approximately 300 cartridges with shitty graphics and terribly compressed cutscenes.

    AKA you won't enjoy FFXIII.
