About time they put that dog down.
Aren't they making FFXIV?
Agreed. But yeah, I thought they had XIV in the makes, and probably XV on the way.
Still, I find this hard to believe. Final Fantasy is a cash cow; they'll keep spewing out Final Fantasy games as long as fanboys want them. And trust me, that'll be a long time.
They'll probably just find some other new franchise to take its place. Though its nice (I guess?) that they decided not to milk franchise any longer.
FF 14 is an MMORPG like 11, so not traditional. They never said they would stop making Final Fantasy games, that would be a really stupid move to kill their main game series off. Just kill off the old turn based style i guess.
Maybe XIII will be the last singleplayer and they'll just focus on adding more content to XIV?
To me that doesn't sounds like it'll be the last, just the last to be done internally. This is a cash cow for them, even the shit games sell.
FF XIV is going to be an MMO.
I'm not sure though
But I bet when the fans sees a new Final Fantasy game they'll just go crazy about it.
They did that in XII
Well at least XIII will be good.
As long as 15 doesn't become an MMO, I will be fine.
I'm looking forward to any other changes to the Final Fantasy Series.
Yeah, FF14 is an MMO, coming to PC and PS3 from what I understand, and from what I've heard it'll be free to play online, no subscription fees. You can actually sign up for beta testing if you're interested. I've already applied. Hope I get picked. Even better, I hope those who get picked get their names in the credits. I doubt it, but one has to dream...
I don't see how anyone read this and thought it was the last Final Fantasy? It seems like it might be the last traditional Final Fantasy. Though I can't see Square stepping away from all RPG elements, I can imagine a open-world GTA/Yakuza type Final Fantasy or a roaming adventure Zelda/Shadow-of-Colossus type Final Fantasy. The only problem is every time square tries something "different" it ends up pretty mediocre. But that might have more to do with them not putting enough resources into their side projects.
You haven't played 13 have you then? They brought the turn based gameplay back. They even reintroduced the active time battles in a new way, sort of.
They'll only drop this as soon as they start to lose money, or not make much profit. No sane company would stop milking a franchise that is still popular and profitable.
Who cares if they stop making the Final Fantasy [insert roman numerals here] games. I find the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles games to be much more fun.
He said XII, boy, not XIII.
XII was different from every other FF by not using a turn-based system.
It was also different in that it wasn't made by the same team that made VII, VII, X and XIII, explaining the lack of teen-drama.
I know that, i'm saying that XIII brought the turn based part back, therefore hardly what i'd call killing it off. They're saying now that they may NEVER return to the old style. Kill it off completely.
I'm not sure what this bodes either. All the rep i've heard of XII seems really negative, people hate it in fact. Something tells me if they kill off the old style, people will be pissed off. So far, reviews of XIII are quite positive and most people seem to love it.
You're a minority. Most people detest Crystal Chronicles. It's hit or miss with me, but almost every numerical Final Fantasy in the main series has caught my attention more.
