I don't think so. I mean, look at these ridiculous looking character models and compare them with those from Tekken 1, also a PSOne game.

Night and day, right?
you also have to keep in mind the FInal Fantasy VII was so big of a game for the ps1 that it was spanned across 3 separate discs, and is an overall way bigger experience than Tekken 3, along with the fact that Tekken 3 is a port from an arcade game, it wasnt directly developed for the ps1, they didnt have to remake anything, they just sorta reworked it for the ps1. and then tell me this, compare the environments of Final Fantasy VII and Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII wins by a huge amount in the aspect, along with the FMV cutscenes that looked absolutely stunning at the time in Final Fantasy VII

All what you said just doesn't change anything about that FF7 is a pretty bad looking game.

yes but you were comparing it to an arcade game, if you compare Final Fantasy VII to any other ps1 game itll either look better or equal to it, no ps1 game holds up to day graphically, im not even sure why your expecting it to as none of them do

Your argument that Tekken 1 is an arcade game is an excuse. The screenshot was from the PS1 version, the very same console that runs FF7. Both games had the same specs available during development. If you are still not satisfied, here is another screenshot for you from another PS1 game, Dark Cloud.

Now surely Dark Cloud wasn't an arcade game, was it?

No, dude, you got it wrong. Dark Cloud is a ps2 game. Just saying

These two games have really good graphics for being ps1 games, I say.

You're right about FF7 looking like ass technically I guess. But Dark Cloud is a PS2 game.
FF7 was an early ps1 game, Compare it to FF8 or FF9
What's the point? You're beating a dead horse, Why even discuss this? It's 2015, The ps1 is almost 20 years old

The whole game is actually on each disc; the three discs thing is from FMV. You bypass the FMV checks/disc checks (not sure if the standard spring trick would be enough to do it, not that I would advise that anyway) and you can play the whole game on any disc.

Ouch, my bad. Still, the statement that FF7 pushed the PSone to its limit is void.
inever said it pushed the limits of the ps1, that was the other guy, i was merely saying it doesn't matter since graphically no ps1 game holds up today.and you really thought Dark Cloud was ps1? god XD

Soooo technically FF7 was supposed to be on N64, this gives us some insight as to the overworld character models, since the BG's are "hand painted" scenes. The combat models looked very nice at the time, much like Tekken as you screenshotted, you should compare that to the combat models, not the overworld models.

If I wanted to play FF7 upscaled to 1080p (and I really don't, PSX games don't look so great upscaled) I'd just pop my old discs into my PS3 instead of buying the game again. If they'd uprendered it, well, I still wouldn't buy it again but at least I'd see the point in that sort of thing.

As for character models, sure they're not the greatest, since it was pretty early in the PSX lifetime, but at the same time, if you look past the technical limitations, they had charm, with their cartoony proportions, something Squeenix is sadly ruining with the too realistic reimagining. But that's just my opinion sure to be drowned out by FF7 fanboys who ironically don't even realize this new version is missing the mark on a lot of what made the game special. Oh well, at least the localization will probably be coherent this time.
