Hey there. So i just finished installing cfw on my new 3ds XL with latest firmware. I also made a backup and copied it (LUCKILY) to my computer. Then i plugged out my new sd card adapter with inserted SD Card and then i plugged in the same usb port where i used the first SD Card adapter and card already, another SD adapter with another SD Card to get some of my save games from my old 3ds. I copied the saves to my computer and then i plugged out the adapter and did put in my newly bought SD adapter with my brand new SD card that i used to cfw my new 3ds xl. But this time windows told me that the hard disk is CORRUPTED.

I think i confused windows by plugging out my first SD card + adapter and reinserting into the same usb port i used before for the first sd card + adapter, a second (old) adapter + old card.
Now both SD cards got corrupted. I had to format both of them and i did.

But luckily i have my backup of my new 3ds on my pc. So how can i use the backup now ? my new 3ds wont boot without inserted SD card. I assume i need the old files as well that were on that SD card after i finished installing cfw but i dont have them anymore except the backup.bin ...

Ps. The reason why i wanna use the backup is, to get the cfw files back on the sd card. Otherwise my 3ds wont boot

Edit: I decided to try this guide now: https://3ds.hacks.guide/restoring-updating-cfw.html
and now everything works again. I will never ever again put a sd card adapter into the same usb port, where i used already another sd adapter with a different sd card. I learned my lesson

Edit2: My old 3ds xl was able to boot always without any inserted sd card. I dont remember how i did that.
Can someone tell me how i can do that for my n3ds xl as well ?

Switching the SD card and plugging into the same port is not generally a problem.
However, I once experienced a bug where Windows would not correctly detect the new card I plugged in, I just had to reboot and then it was fine.

Or it could be down to the SD card reader freaking out. I've had cheaper ones that would always tell me that the card is unformatted, whereas using it on the same device would work just fine. The Anker USB 3.0 readers are what you should be aiming for, they have lasted me for a long while. Compare that to dollar store card readers, they always have the forbidden glob tops on a one-sided board, and usually last over a few months before overheating.

You are the best ! i was going to ask if someone can recommend me a good adapter because my SD card is just 1 day old, i bought it NEW.
I just tested it again and plugged in my SD Adapter to pc with one SD card, then i swapped the entire adapter and card with the same usb port and it just happened AGAIN, windows told me the card needs to get formatted.
I repeated this test with 25 other sd cards and 4 more usb adapters and it happened EVERY SINGLE TIME. 4 of the 25 SD cards just got unboxed today, so they are new, they cant be damaged. The adapters were bought for 2-8€ and are no name brands.

So its 100% the adapter. I have this problem since years and always wondered why this happened to me. I just thought its because of using the same usb port with a different SD card and maybe a different sd card usb adapter.

I just did another test: Before inserting a different sd card with a different sd usb adapter into the same usb port, i just rebooted my PC after i plugged out the first sd card and adapter. And doing this, dont tells me every time that the card needs to get formated.
This seems like a temporary fix, i gonna do this until my new card reader arives.

I didnt know anker has card readers as well but i bought many adapters and cables from anker and DAMN they are so good. They never got damaged or anything for years. Anker is the best !

Ps. To my problem that my n3ds wont but without SD card: It was my bad. After i finished all the steps of installing the cfw, i took out the micro sd card of my n3ds to see if it boots. I pressed the power button, the blue light went on but few seconds later the console just turned off. I had to try again but i thought trying again wont change it so i asked here for help.
Now i just tried it for the second time and now the n3ds boots every time without sd cards without problems.
I think its normal that it doesnt boots on the first attempt after installing cfw because Luma / the cfw was setting something up so it can boot without sd card.

Coax wire today is much better (RG6) than old school coax (RG58/59). Newer wire more expensive than the older wire.

You can buy it at any length @homedepot wire cutting area cheaper than buying preformed cable, but you have to put on your own ends/ connectors.
